Sarasota Thunder season was the first and only season for the professional indoor football franchise and first in the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL). The Thunder were one of six teams that competed in the UIFL for the 2013 season. Led by head coach Greg Walls, the Thunder played their entire season as a travel team, based out of Sarasota, Florida. 2013 UIFL Season
The 2013 Ultimate Indoor Football League season was the third season of the league. The league contracted down to just 6 teams. Team movement Expansion On May 29, 2013, the Missouri Monsters were announced as the first expansion team for the 2013 season. On July 23, 2012, the league announced that the Indianapolis Panthers would be joining the UIFL, however they would later be removed from the league prior to the beginning of the season. On August 12, 2012, it was announced that the Sarasota, Florida ( Sarasota Thunder) marked would be joining the UIFL. On September 27, 2012, the fourth and final expansion team was accepted into the UIFL, the Corpus Christi Fury. Retraction The Cincinnati Commandos, Eastern Kentucky Drillers, Erie Explosion and Marion Blue Racers all left the UIFL to join the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL). Hertz Arena is a 7,181-seat multi-purpose arena in Estero, Florida, which is located between Miromar Lakes, Florida and Bonita Springs, Florida. The arena opened in November 1998 and serves as the home of the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. History The arena was first named Everblades Arena in 1998 after the hockey team that plays there. TECO Energy was the first company to obtain the naming rights to the building, changing the name to TECO Arena. In 2004, TECO Energy decided they were no longer interested in holding the naming rights. Germain Motor Company bought the rights, and in 2004 the venue was renamed to Germain Arena. Arthur Jeffery (18 October 1892 in Melbourne, Australia – 2 August 1959 in South Milford, Canada) was a Protestant Australian professor of Semitic languages from 1921 at the School of Oriental Studies in Cairo, and from 1938 until his death jointly at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Sarasota Thunder
The Sarasota Thunder were a professional indoor football team based in Sarasota, Florida. They played in the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) for part of the 2013 season before folding. The Thunder initially announced Robarts Arena as their home venue, though they played all their games on the road. Franchise history In August 2012, the Sarasota Thunder was announced as the third 2013 expansion team of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. This was the second attempt to bring an indoor football team to Sarasota, the first being the Florida Scorpions of the National Indoor Football League. The team announced they would play their home games at Robarts Arena. In September 2012, the Thunder named Greg Walls the franchise's first head coach. Before the season, however, the league took over control of the Thunder and shifted them to an all-travel schedule, with no home games in Sarasota.
