2013 Irish Budget
The 2013 Irish budget was the Irish Government budget for the 2013 fiscal year, presented to Dáil Éireann on 5 December 2012. It was the second budget of the 29th Government of Ireland. The budget saw the introduction of the local property tax at rates of 0.18% per annum and 0.25% per annum. Child benefit will be cut by €10 a month with €61m cuts in other household benefits. College fees will also rise in the next year by €250 a student while motor tax will also increase. A packet of 20 cigarettes increases by 10-cent while excise duty on a pint or beer or cider will increase by 10-cent, on a standard measure of spirits by 10-cent, and on a bottle of wine by €1. Local Property Tax (Ireland)
The local property tax (LPT) is annual self-assessed tax charged on the market value of all residential properties in Ireland. It came into effect on 1 July 2013 and is collected by the Revenue Commissioners. The tax is assessed on residential properties. The owner of a property is liable (though in the case of leases over twenty years, the tenant becomes liable). The revenue raised is used to fund the provision of services by local authorities and includes transfers between local authorities. Valuation and rates The tax is based upon the assessed market value of the property in May 2013. This valuation is to be used as the basis for a half-year payment in 2013, as well as 3 further full year payments in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The tax due is calculated via a system of market bands. The initial national central rate of the tax is 0.18% of a property's value up to €1 million, and in the case of properties valued over €1 million, 0.25% on the balance. Colm Keaveney (born 11 January 1971) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was elected as a Labour Party Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway East constituency at the 2011 general election, He sat as an Independent TD after losing the Labour whip in December 2012. He resigned from the party in June 2013, and joined Fianna Fáil in December 2013. He is a former Chairman of the Labour Party.
