2013 Hockey India League Players' Auction
2013 Hockey India League Players' Auction was the auction of players for the first season of the franchise-based field hockey tournament, Hockey India League. Auction was conducted by International Auctioneer Bob Hayton and took place on 16 December at The Lalit Hotel in New Delhi. A total of 246 players were available for the auction out of which 93 were foreign player and 153 local. Each franchise had a purse of 650,000 to spend in the auction on 24 players (14 Indian and 10 overseas) for a term of 3 years. Minimum base price for an Indian player was 2,800 and for overseas player was 5,000 under which franchise owners could not bid. Marquee players The franchise owners made silent bids for each of the five marquee players before the actual auction begun. 2013 Hockey India League
2013 Hockey India League, known as Hero Hockey India League and abbreviated as HIL 2013 was the first season of the field hockey tournament Hockey India League. Tournament was scheduled to start from 5 January to 3 February but was postponed to 14 January to 10 February. Rules and regulations Five teams took part in the tournament and each team played three matches against each team, one at their home venue and one at the venue of the opposition team. The third match was played against the other four teams two at home and two away. The Uttar Pradesh Wizards (abbreviated as UPW) are a field hockey team based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh that plays in the Hockey India League. It is owned by Sahara India Pariwar. Former Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans serves as coach for the team and former Indian captain Dhanraj Pillay acts as the technical director of the team. Franchisee Details Ownership The team is owned by Sahara Adventure Sports Limited, a group company of Sahara India, bought the franchise on 23 July 2012. Lucas Rey (born 11 October 1982) is an Argentine field hockey midfielder, who plays club hockey in his native country for San Fernando. He is a member of the Men's National Team since 2002, and finished in 11th position at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Sporting career Oskar Deecke started his national career with German club Club an der Alster in Hamburg, Germany. Justin Reid-Ross (born 16 July 1986) is a retired South African field hockey player who played as a defender for the South African national team. Christopher Ciriello (born 1 October 1985) is an Australian field hockey player. He plays for the Victorian Vikings in the Australian Hockey League. He made his senior national team début in January 2008.
