2013 Great West Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2013 Great West Conference Baseball Tournament was held from May 21–25. All eight of the league's teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at new Jersey Institute of Technology's Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, New Jersey. As the Great West is a new conference, the league does not have an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. Third seeded won their first championship, ending Utah Valley's run of three consecutive titles dating to the event's inception. Seeding and format All eight teams were seeded based on conference winning percentage only and then met in a double-elimination bracket. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. Jared Moon
Jared Wayne Moon (born April 4, 1971) is an American baseball coach and former catcher. He played college baseball at Houston Baptist for coaches Rickey Witt & Rusty Pendergrass from 1990 to 1994. He was also the head coach of the Houston Baptist Huskies (2006–2021) Early life Moon attended Aldine High School in Houston, Texas. Moon played for the school's varsity baseball team. Moon then enrolled at Houston Baptist University, where he played for the Houston Baptist Huskies baseball team as an catcher. Coaching career Upon graduation, Moon was named an assistant at Houston Baptist. After 11 seasons as an assistant, he was promoted to head coach when Brian Huddleston retired. In their final season in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Huskies advanced to the NAIA World Series, where they finished third. Houston Baptist Huskies Baseball
The Houston Christian Huskies baseball team, known as the Houston Baptist Huskies until 2022, is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas, United States. The team is a member of the Southland Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Husky Field in Houston, Texas. Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium
Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, originally simply Riverfront Stadium, was a 6,200-seat baseball park in Newark, New Jersey, United States built in 1999. It was the home of the Newark Bears, who played in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent minor baseball league. The Bears played in the stadium from 1999 until 2013 when they announced a move to the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, but the team was folded shortly thereafter. The stadium was also home to the baseball teams of two of Newark's universities: the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders, who play in the New Jersey Athletic Conference as part of NCAA Division III, and the NJIT Highlanders, who play in the America East Conference as part of NCAA Division I. 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2013 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, May 31, 2013 as part of the 2013 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2013 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which began on June 15 and ended with the final round on June 25. The UCLA Bruins swept the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a best-of-three series to win the NCAA National Championship, the university's first in baseball and the 109th national title in all sports. The 64 participating college baseball teams were selected from an eligible pool of 298 NCAA Division I programs. Thirty teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their individual conferences. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding.
