2012–13 VHL Season
The 2012–13 VHL season was the third season of the Russian Major League. It started 9 September 2012 and ended in April 2013. Team and KHL affiliation changes Team changes *Donbass Donetsk left the league after its inaugural season joining the KHL. * Buran Voronezh and THK Tver of the lower level Russian Hockey League joined. *The league was expanded with two more non-Russian teams, Belarusian Yunost Minsk and Kazakhstani Saryarka Karaganda. *A new franchise Kuban Krasnodar was created. * HC VMF relocated from St. Petersburg to Kondopoga, Karelia. Affiliation changes Regular season Starting with this season the VHL abandoned its previous conference structure. All teams played their regular seasons in a round robin format with two games (home and away) against every team of the league. Russian Major League
The Supreme Hockey League (SHL) (russian: Высшая хоккейная лига (ВХЛ), links=no, ''Vysshaya hokkeinaya liga (VHL)''), also known as the Major Hockey League or Higher Hockey League (HHL), is a professional ice hockey league in Eurasia, and the second highest level of Russian hockey. Though currently acting independently, plans were in place to convert it to a farm system for the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL)'s 2010–11 season. It was preceded by the Major League of the Russian Championship (Vysshaya Liga) that formerly held a relegation role for the Russian Superleague, and was governed by the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia. As of the 2017–18 season, some VHL teams were affiliated with a KHL team (e.g. HC Sarov is affiliated with KHL's Torpedo), while other teams of the VHL are not affiliated with a KHL team. Metallurg Novokuznetsk (russian: Металлург Новокузнецк) is a professional ice hockey team from Siberia based in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. They are currently members of the Supreme Hockey League (VHL). History The team was founded in 1949 in Novokuznetsk (then Stalinsk) to compete in the lower divisions of the Soviet ice hockey championship. During the 1960s, Metallurg managed to advance to the elite group for several seasons, but did not establish itself as a major club until the 1990s when the International Hockey League was formed. During the first years of the post-Soviet era, Novokuznetsk significantly improved its roster with players from the Ust-Kamenogorsk school.
