2012–13 LKL Season
The 2012–13 Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was the 20th season of the top-tier level professional basketball league of Lithuania, the Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL). Competition format Every team except Žalgiris and Lietuvos rytas ''Lietuvos rytas'' (lit. 'Morning of Lithuania') is a Lithuanian daily newspaper. History and profile "Lietuvos rytas" was established in 1990 on a basis of newspaper "Komjaunimo tiesa". The paper is printed in Vilnius Vilnius ( , ; see also ... played 22 games, two against each other. Those two teams, due to their participation in EuroLeague, played only eleven games, all of them away. The eight first qualified teams joined the playoffs. Quarterfinal series were played with a best-of-three series format, semifinals with a best-of-five and the finals with a best-of-seven games format. The last qualified of the Regular Season was relegated to the NKL.

Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL) (''English'': Lithuanian Basketball League), also known as Betsafe LKL for sponsorship reasons, is the premier professional men's club basketball league in Lithuania. It is composed of 12 teams, and it is a member of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The best LKL clubs are also annual participants of the top European-wide basketball competitions, including European professional club basketball system, the top-tier level EuroLeague. On April 22, 1993, the Lietuvos krepšinio asociacija (''English'': Lithuanian Basketball Association) (LKA) was founded. It was the first professional sports organisation in Lithuania. Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was built on the foundation of the LKA. Former basketball player Šarūnas Marčiulionis is named as the founder of the league. BC Sakalai
BC Sakalai was a professional basketball club based in Vilnius, Lithuania, playing in the Lithuanian Basketball League and the Baltic Basketball League. They played their home games at the 1,000-seat Ekinstos laisvalaikio centras. Sakalai means falcons in Lithuanian language. Franchise history Beginning and LKAL champions (1991–1994) BC Sakalai began playing in 1991 at the Lithuanian Basketball A League (LKAL). In 1994, Sakalai managed to win the LKAL Championship and in June 1994, the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) Committee accepted them into the LKL. LKL debut (1994–1995) In their debut season, Sakalai finished in eighth place (17 wins and 23 losses), and were coached by Šarūnas Sakalauskas. Their first win was against NECA Kaunas, 100–88. Mindaugas Katelynas
Mindaugas Katelynas (born 16 May 1983) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player. Playing career Born in Alytus, Lithuanian SSR, Soviet Union, Katelynas grew up with Alytus youth basketball team. In 2001, he accepted a scholarship at the United States's College of Eastern Utah, which participated in NJCAA tournaments. Two years later, he moved to Tennessee-Chattanooga of NCAA's Division I. While at Chattanooga, Katelynas won the NCAA dunk contest in 2005. After two impressive seasons, Katelynas participated in the 2005 NBA draft camp, but did not go on to the actual draft. He tried his luck again in the NBA by participating in Phoenix Suns summer camp, but he did not receive much acclaim. After such setbacks, Katelynas left for Europe. Jeep Arena is a 2,741-seat basketball arena in Vilnius, Lithuania, built next to Avia Solutions Group Arena. Rytas Vilnius play the Lithuanian Basketball League's home matches in the arena. Robertas Javtokas (born March 20, 1980) is a Lithuanian professional basketball executive and former player. He most recently served as sports director of Žalgiris Kaunas. Darjuš Lavrinovič ( pl, Dariusz Ławrynowicz, born 1 November 1979) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for the BC Vytis of the National Basketball League. He is 2.12m (6' 11½") in height. Mindaugas Girdžiūnas (born 20 January 1989) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player currently playing for BC Neptūnas, Neptūnas Klaipėda.
