The 2012 The Hague Open was a professional tennis tournament played on clay courts. It was the 20th edition of the tournament which was part of the 2012 ATP Challenger Tour and the Tretorn SERIE+. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness. Martín Alund (; sv, Ålund; born 26 December 1985) is a retired Argentine professional tennis player. He reached the semifinals of the 2013 Brasil Open; has won seven ATP Challenger events in doubles; and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 84 in March 2013. Tennis career Juniors As a junior, Alund reached as high as No. 45 in the world singles rankings in March 2003 (and No. 62 in doubles the same year). Alexandre Sidorenko (born 18 February 1988) is a French tennis player. Sidorenko has a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 145, achieved on 25 May 2009. He also has a career-high ATP doubles ranking of world No. 168, achieved 7 June 2010. Yuri Schukin (russian: Ю́рий Ива́нович Щу́кин, Shchukin; born 26 June 1979) is a retired Russian-born Kazakhstani tennis player. Thiago Moura Monteiro (; born 31 May 1994) is a Brazilian professional tennis player. Monteiro has a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 61 achieved on 17 October 2022. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of No. 144 achieved on 31 January 2022. He is currently the No. 1 Brazilian tennis player. Thiemo Carsten Jannick de Bakker (born 19 September 1988) is a Dutch professional tennis player.
