2012 Speedway National League
The 2012 season of the National League was the third tier/division of British speedway and was contested by eight teams. Summary Newport and Belle Vue did not return from 2011, and Hackney opted to run at Rye House only, renaming the team Rye House Raiders. Mildenhall Fen Tigers beat Dudley Heathens in the play-off final to become champions. National League (speedway)
The current National Development League formerly the National League was formed in 2009 as the third division of speedway in the United Kingdom, replacing the Conference League. It follows the same rules and regulations as the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship, including the use of rider averages. There were two previous speedway leagues in Britain sharing the 'National League' name, the main league that operated from 1932 to 1964, and British League Division Two, which was renamed the National League between 1975 and 1990. Dudley Heathens
Cradley Heathens was a motorcycle speedway team from Dudley, England. The team was founded in 1947 and competed at the top level of British speedway until its closure in 1995. It was revived as Dudley Heathens in 2010, competing in the National League, reverting to the Cradley Heathens name in 2013. It ceased operating after the 2019 season. History Cradley Heath speedway team was formed in 1947 and first raced at Dudley Wood Stadium on 21 June 1947 after a number of away appearances prior to the opening of the newly built stadium. They raced in the 1947 Speedway National League Division Three and took the name Cradley Heath Cubs for the first two seasons. After closure at the end of the 1952 season the track reopened in 1959 for one unlicensed meeting and in 1960 the Heathens entered the newly formed Provincial League. Byron Bekker
Byron Anthony Bekker (born 2 July 1987, in Johannesburg) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from South Africa, who rode in the British Premier League. Career Bekker started his British racing career in 2005 with Newcastle Gems where he rode seven meetings. He was quickly offered a contract with the clubs Premier League team, Newcastle Diamonds. However, with the Gems not having a team in the following season, he was sent to ride for Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Conference League to gain further experience. He made his debut at Sittingbourne Crusaders where he claimed a four ride paid maximum. The following weekend he scored eight on his home debut and five at Newport in two narrow victories. He was also three times within one point of a maximum around the Scunthorpe Raceway whilst his 8+3 points from five rides at Stoke Spitfires helped the club to a close one-point victory. Adam Roynon
Adam Wayne Roynon (born 30 August 1988, in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria) is a British motorcycle speedway rider. His father, Chris Roynon, was a speedway rider and promoter for the Barrow Blackhawks. Career Roynon won three trophies in his first full season of Conference League racing, winning the League Championship, the Conference Trophy and the Knockout Cup. He won the Premier League Championship with the Rye House Rockets in 2007 and finished 3rd in the Indoor speedway event at Brighton. Roynon is contracted to Elite League team the Coventry Bees, but declined a team place there for 2008. On 6 March 2009, Roynon crashed while practising with the Great Britain squad at the Norfolk Arena, King's Lynn and suffered a blood clot to his brain and a broken neck (C2 vertebra). National League Knockout Cup
The National League Knockout Cup is a speedway third tier Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom. The competition was previously known as the Academy League Knockout Cup (1995) and the Conference League Knockout Cup (1996-2008) until it changed name to the National League Knockout Cup. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the Cup were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. King's Lynn Young Stars
King's Lynn Stars are a motorcycle speedway team who compete in the SGB Premiership. The nickname "Stars" comes from the defunct Norwich Stars team. The team was founded in 1965 and has been running continually since then, except for 1996 when King's Lynn failed to have a team competing in the British league system. History 1966–1995 The team's inaugural season was the 1966 British League season, where they finished 16th. They managed to finish in third place during the 1972 and 1973 seasons with their strongest riders being Terry Betts and Malcolm Simmons. The first silverware won by the team was the Knockout Cup in 1977. They won the final by the small margin of two points on aggregate, thanks largely to Michael Lee and Betts. Buxton Hitmen
The Buxton Hitmen were a speedway team in the British National League (formerly the Conference League) from 1994 to 2018. The club stopped racing in the National League after the 2018 speedway season. History The team's inaugural season was in the 1994 British League Division Three in which they finished in 6th place. They following year they finished 3rd in the 1995 Academy League before joining the Conference League (division 3). During the 2002 Speedway Conference League season the team won their first silverware when winning the Conference League Knockout Cup. In the 25 years that the team raced they always competed in the third division and their best season was 2010 when they achieved the treble. After finishing 2nd in the regular season table behind Dudley Heathens during the 2010 National League speedway season they won the playoffs, defeating Newport in the final.
