The 2012 SDA Tennis Open was a professional tennis tournament played on clay courts. It was the first edition of the tournament which was part of the 2012 ATP Challenger Tour. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness. Play Clay courts are considered "slow" because the balls bounce relatively high and lose much of their initial speed when contacting the surface, making it more difficult for a player to deliver an unreturnable shot. Máximo González Mereira (; born July 20, 1983, in Tandil) is an Argentine professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 58, achieved in July 2009 and his career-high doubles ranking is World No. 22 achieved on 22 April 2019. Daniel Smethurst
Daniel Smethurst (born 13 October 1990) is a British tennis player and coach, who has played on the ITF Circuit and ATP Challenger Tour. On 23 June 2014 he reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 234 and on 28 July 2014 reached his highest doubles ranking of No. 159. Smethurst dropped out of ATP rankings in 2017, his last match being against Calvin Hemery in the 2016 Wimbledon Championships qualifiers, where he lost in straight sets. Markus Eriksson (tennis)
Markus Eriksson (born 29 November 1989) is a retired Swedish tennis player. Eriksson has a career high ATP singles ranking of 277, achieved on 19 August 2019. Tennis career Eriksson made his ATP main draw singles debut at the 2013 Swedish Open where he lost in the first round to Martín Alund. In 2014, he made his debut in the main draw of an ATP doubles event, when he and partner Isak Arvidsson received a wild card at the Swedish Open. Matwé Middelkoop
Matwé Middelkoop (; born 3 September 1983) is a Dutch professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He has won 13 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, most notably the 2022 Rotterdam Open alongside Robin Haase, and reached a career high doubles ranking of world No. 22 on 25 July 2022. Middelkoop has reached the 2022 French Open semifinal in doubles and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships semifinal in mixed doubles, and two more Grand Slam quarterfinals in men's doubles, at the 2017 US Open and at the 2021 Australian Open.
