2012 Philadelphia Union Season
The 2012 Philadelphia Union season was the third season of the team's existence, competing in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team was initially managed by former MLS player Peter Nowak, in his third season with the club. In June, Nowak resigned and assistant coach John Hackworth was promoted to manager on an interim basis. Philadelphia Union
The Philadelphia Union are an American professional soccer club based in Chester, Pennsylvania. The Union compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference. Founded on February 28, 2008, the club began playing in 2010 as an expansion team. The club's home stadium is Subaru Park, a soccer-specific stadium located in Chester, Pennsylvania on the banks of the Delaware River. The Union are currently owned by Keystone Sports & Entertainment, with Jay Sugarman serving as majority owner and chairman of the club. Professional basketball player Kevin Durant also serves as a minority owner. The club's current head coach is Jim Curtin. Curtin has been coaching the Union since 2014. Chris Albright
Christopher John Albright (born January 14, 1979) is an American former soccer player and current general manager for FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer. Youth and college Albright attended William Penn Charter School. A forward early in his career, Albright played college soccer at the University of Virginia for two years; he was named an All-American in 1999. Club career Considered one of the best attacking prospects in the country, he leveraged foreign interest into getting assigned to D.C. United, despite the club being low on MLS's pecking order for Project-40 players. Amobi Okugo
Amobi Chidubem Okugo (born March 13, 1991) is an American soccer player who currently plays as a midfielder and defender for Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship. Career College Okugo grew up in Sacramento, California, attended Rio Americano High School and Jesuit High School, and played one year of college soccer at UCLA in 2009, where he was named the 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. Professional Okugo was drafted in the first round (6th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Philadelphia Union. He made his professional debut on March 25, 2010, in the opening game of the 2010 MLS season against Seattle Sounders FC. Michael Lahoud
Michael Lahoud (french: Michel Lahoud, ar, مايكل لحود; born September 15, 1986) is a former Sierra Leonean footballer and current broadcaster for Austin FC. He also holds American citizenship. Career College Born in Freetown, Lahoud moved from his country to Annandale, Virginia in the United States when he was six years old. He attended Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, and played college soccer at Wake Forest University, playing a total of 95 games. Jon Chandler Hoffman (born August 17, 1990) is an American professional soccer player who currently plays as a forward for Los Angeles Force in the National Independent Soccer Association. Designated Player
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. Generation Adidas
Generation Adidas is a joint venture between Major League Soccer and U.S. Soccer aimed at raising the level of young professional soccer talent in the United States. The program, sponsored by Adidas, offers professional-ready players in the U.S. developmental system not yet eligible for the MLS SuperDraft early entry, allowing MLS to compete with foreign professional clubs without comparable restrictions on player signing.
