2012 Palauan Presidential Election
General elections were held in Palau on 6 November 2012. Former President Tommy Remengesau defeated his successor, incumbent Johnson Toribiong, who had been elected in 2008. Antonio Bells was elected Vice-President, defeating Kerai Mariur, who had finished first in the primary elections on 26 September. Electoral system The president and vice president elections had primary elections on 26 September, from which the top two candidates qualified for the presidential general election on 6 November. 15,305 voters registered to vote, an increase of 1,516 voters from the 2008 elections. Johnson Toribiong (born 22 July 1946) is a Palauan attorney and politician.
Toribiong became the , following his victory in the November 2008 election, and left office in 2013. Before 2020 elections, Toribiong has run for president four times - in 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012.

Elections In Palau
On a national level, the citizens of Palau elect a President (government title), president, who serves a four-year term, and acts as head of state. A national bicameralism, bicameral legislature, is also elected, consisting of the Palau National Congress (''Olbiil era Kelulau'') and the Senate of Palau. The National Congress has 16 members, each serving four-year terms in single-seat constituency, constituencies. Katharine Kesolei (1942 - 13 October 2015) was an anthropologist and Senator from Palau. Kesolei was born in the state of Ngchesar, on Babeldaob island. In 1960, Kesolei was involved with founding the Micronesian Girls Association. She was also a member of Mechesil Belau, Palau’s traditional women leaders’ group, and contributed to its annual conference from 1994 until her death. The conference became a national public forum for traditional women leaders to discuss and propose resolutions for government to enact with regard to cultural, social, health and environmental challenges. Kesolei studied anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and became an expert in cultural conservation.
