2012 PGA Tour Latinoamérica
The 2012 PGA Tour Latinoamérica was the inaugural season of PGA Tour Latinoamérica, the main professional golf tour in Latin America, operated and run by the PGA Tour. The tour was converted from the Tour de las Américas which ceased to operate in 2012. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 2012 season. Order of Merit The Order of Merit was based on prize money won during the season, calculated in U.S. dollars. The top five players on the Order of Merit earned status to play on the 2013 Web.com Tour. Ariel Cañete
Ariel Cañete (born 7 February 1975) is an Argentine professional golfer. Career Cañete was born in Santa Teresita, Buenos Aires. He turned professional in 1995. Having competed on the local Argentine Tour, and the Tour de las Américas earlier in his career, in 2002 Cañete began playing on the Challenge Tour, Europe's second tier development tour. He finished high enough in the end of season rankings in 2005 to gain a place on the main European Tour. He finished the 2006 season in 143rd position on the Order of Merit, which was not enough to secure full playing rights for 2007. Having played in two Challenge Tour events in Latin America, he was given an invite to the European Tour's Joburg Open, and he made the most of the opportunity by claiming the title, and with it a two-year exemption on the tour. Roberto De Vicenzo Invitational Copa NEC
The Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC was a men's professional golf tournament. First held in 2005 as the Roberto De Vicenzo Classic, it is named after one of Argentina's most successful golfers, Roberto De Vicenzo. The tournament has been held at the San Eliseo Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina until 2012, and moved to the Club de Golf del Uruguay in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2015, it moved to Club del Lago Golf in Maldonado, Uruguay. All three cities are on the Río de la Plata. From 2007 to 2011, the tournament was part of the TPG Tour, the official professional golf tour in Argentina. In 2006 and from 2008 to 2010, it was included on the Tour de las Américas schedule. Ángel Cabrera
Ángel Cabrera (; born 12 September 1969) is an Argentine professional golfer who has played on both the European Tour and PGA Tour. He is known affectionately as ''"El Pato"'' in Spanish ''("The Duck")'' for his waddling gait. He is a two-time major champion, with wins at the U.S. Open in 2007 and the Masters in 2009; he was the first (and still only as of 2021) Argentine and South American to win either. The Argentina Classic is a men's professional golf tournament held in Argentina and has been part of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica schedule since 2012. The tournament was first played on PGA Tour Latinoamérica in December 2012 as the "Olivos Golf Classic-Copa Personal" and was held at Olivos Golf Club. Sebastián Fernández (golfer)
Sebastián Fernández (born 8 September 1973) is an Argentine professional golfer. Fernández was born in Buenos Aires. He worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1991. He won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 2000. He won three Argentine PGA Championships, in 1991, 2001 and 2005, the first as an 18-year-old, and also came second in 2003. Fernández competed on the Challenge Tour from 2003 to 2007, winning one tournament, the Costa Rica Open in 2003, and finishing second in the Skandia PGA Open (Sweden) in 2003, the Costa Rica Open in 2005 and the Challenge of Ireland in 2006. Sebastián Vázquez (born 7 November 1990) is a Mexican professional golfer who currently plays on the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamérica. Amateur career Vázquez had a successful amateur career winning the Mexican Amateur in 2011 and 2012. He also represented Mexico at the 2012 Eisenhower Trophy as part of a team with Rodolfo Cazaubón and Carlos Ortiz. Puerto Rico Classic
The Puerto Rico Classic was a men's professional golf tournament hosted by the Puerto Rico Golf Association and was an event on PGA Tour Latinoamérica from 2012 to 2013. The tournament was hosted at the Dorado Beach Resort in both years and the inaugural winner of the event was Sebastián Vázquez.
