The 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament was an under-18 ice hockey tournament held in Břeclav, Czech Republic, and Piešťany, Slovakia, on August 13–18, 2012. Nathan MacKinnon
Nathan Raymond MacKinnon (born September 1, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Nicknamed "Nate the Great" and "The Dogg", he is regarded as one of the best hockey players in the world and is known for being an exceptional performer in the postseason. Overtime is a method of determining a winner in an ice hockey game when the score is tied after regulation. The main methods of determining a winner in a tied game are the overtime period (commonly referred to as overtime), the shootout, or a combination of both. Hlinka Gretzky Cup
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual international under-18 ice hockey tournament administered by Hockey Canada, the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. Held since 1991, it has been contested under various titles and in various countries, including Japan, Mexico, and Canada. From 1997 through 2017, hosting duties for the event alternated between, and were later split between, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. During this period, the event was known as the Nations Cup, the U-18 Junior World Cup, and Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. From 2018 through 2023, the tournament will alternate between Edmonton/Red Deer, Alberta and Břeclav, Czech Republic/ Piešťany, Slovakia. The 2012 IIHF U20 World Championship (commonly known as the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships) was the 36th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. 2012 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2012 IIHF U18 World Championship was the 14th IIHF World U18 Championship and was hosted in Brno, Znojmo and Břeclav, Czech Republic. It began on 12 April 2012 with the gold medal game played on 22 April 2012. Brno and Znojmo were originally to co-host, but a schedule change became necessary when Kometa Brno unexpectedly advanced to the Czech Extraliga finals, making their home ice unavailable to the tournament on three days. Curtis Lazar (born February 2, 1995) is a Canadians, Canadian professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first round (17th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Easton Arena (styled EASTON Arena, formerly Patrícia Ice Arena 37 and Zimný Štadión Piešťany) is an arena in Piešťany, Slovakia. It was built in 1986 and is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home arena of ŠHK 37 Piešťany. It also hosted matches for the 2002 IIHF World U18 Championships and is a perennial host of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. It has a capacity of 5,000. The 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament was an under-18 ice hockey tournament held in Břeclav, Czech Republic and Piešťany, Slovakia from August 8–13, 2011. As in 2010, the venues were Alcaplast Arena in Břeclav and Patrícia Ice Arena 37 in Piešťany. Canada won gold for the fourth consecutive year, defeating Sweden 4–1 in the final after losing to them 5–1 in their opening game.
