Taipei Metro
Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), branded as Metro Taipei, is a rapid transit system serving the areas of Taipei and New Taipei City, New Taipei in Taiwan, operated by the State-owned enterprise, government-owned Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, which also operates the Maokong Gondola. Taipei Metro was the first metro system ever built in Taiwan. The initial network was approved for construction in 1986 and work began two years later. It began operations on March 28, 1996, and by 2000, 62 stations were in service across three main lines. Over the next nine years, the number of passengers had increased by 70%. Since 2008, the network has expanded to 131 stations and the passenger count has grown by another 66%. Neihu District
Neihu District is a district of Taipei City, Taiwan. Neihu means "inner lake." The older name originates from the Ketagalan word ''Tayour'' (transliterated by the Dutch as ''Cattajo''), meaning woman's head ornament. Many mountainous roads and paths, which are ideal for hiking, connect Neihu with the neighboring Shilin District and Yangmingshan National Park. The Tri-Service General Hospital, which is a teaching hospital of the National Defense Medical Center, is also in Neihu. The Wuchih Mountain Military Cemetery borders Neihu. History During Japanese rule, Naiko Village () covered modern day Neihu in addition to Nangang. The village was under Shichisei District, Taihoku Prefecture. Guo Ziyi Memorial Hall
The Guo Ziyi Memorial Hall () or Neihu Red House, formerly known as Neihu Guo Family Estate or Neihu Kuo Family Ancestral Home, is a historical building in Neihu District, Taipei, Taiwan. History The building was originally built in 1917 during the Japanese rule of Taiwan by Guo Hua-xi, the borough chief of Neihu Village. It then became the home for the first Neihu Village mayor, Kuo Hua-jang (郭華讓), who took office in 1920. In 1999, the building was designated as a historical building by the Taipei City Government. In 2010, the building was renovated by the efforts made by World Guo's Clan Association President Kuo Shih-chi with a cost of NT$50 million. NT$30 million of the fund was donated by the association and another NT$10 million by the city government. It was then officially opened on 3 February 2012 to honor the Tang dynasty general Guo Ziyi. Dragon
A dragon is a reptilian legendary creature that appears in the folklore of many cultures worldwide. Beliefs about dragons vary considerably through regions, but dragons in western cultures since the High Middle Ages have often been depicted as winged, horned, and capable of breathing fire. Dragons in eastern cultures are usually depicted as wingless, four-legged, serpentine creatures with above-average intelligence. Commonalities between dragons' traits are often a hybridization of feline, reptilian and avian features. Jiasian District
Jiasian District, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency () is a District (Taiwan), rural district in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Located far from the coast, the township is regarded as a gateway to Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. History Qing Dynasty During the reign of Qianlong Emperor of Taiwan under Qing rule, Qing Dynasty, there was a person named Jiasian who came to the area to develop the land. Later on, people from Fujian and Guangdong migrated there to settle down. The government also established an office in the area for administration purpose. Xiaolin Village Memorial Park
The Xiaolin Village Memorial Park () is a memorial park in Siaolin Village, Jiasian District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The park commemorates victims of the Typhoon Morakot in 2009. History In the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot, Magistrate Yang Chiu-hsing proposed the establishment of a memorial park to commemorate the victims buried in landslide cause by the typhoon. The memorial park was officiated on 15 January 2012 during a ceremony attended by President Ma Ying-jeou, Mayor Chen Chu and Lin Join-sane. Architecture The memorial park measures 1.7 hectares in area and includes an ancestral hall, bridge, memorial square, monument and viewing platform. There are 181 mountain cherry trees planted at the park, representing 181 families who were lost during the natural disaster. 2012 Republic Of China Legislative Election
The 2012 Taiwanese legislative election was held on 16 January 2012 for all 113 seats in the Legislative Yuan. For the first time, legislative elections were held simultaneously with the presidential election. Elected parliamentarians formed the fifteenth Legislative Yuan session since 1946, when the current constitution came into effect. Voting took place on 14 January 2012 between 08:00 and 16:00 local Taipei time at 14,806 polling stations nationwide. Electoral system Members were elected by parallel voting.
