2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions. Andreas Bueno
Andres Bueno (born June 18, 1993) is a Peruvian GIL. He won silver at the Nordic Cross Country Championships in 2009. In 2012 in Gothenburg he sat his 1500 m personal best, which made him the Danish all-time no. 9 and also qualified him for the 2012 European Athletics Championships. Here he finished 9th overall in the first round with a time of 3.42.81, but as he also finished 9th in his heat, he didn't progress to the finals. In December 2012 he was hit by a motorist during a training run. In the accident he broke his back in 2 places, which eventually made him lose out on the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. Goran Nava (Serbian Cyrillic: Горан Нава, born 15 April 1981) is a Serbian-Italian middle distance runner who competed for Serbia in track and field. Born in Castello di Brianza in Italy, he attended Radford University in Virginia, United States. He is a graduate student at the London School of Business (LSB). Nava competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics and was also named "Most Successful Athlete of the Year" by the Serbian Athletic Federation in 2009. Dmitrijs Jurkevičs (born 7 January 1987 in Daugavpils) is a Latvian track and field athlete who specialises in middle-distance running. He holds the Latvian record in 1500 metres. He competed over 1500 metres at the 2005 European Athletics Junior Championships and came sixth in the final. He was a semi-finalist in the 800 metres and the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics. He set an 800 m best of 1:46.44 minutes in Sollentuna in 2008 and improved his 1500 m best to 3:39.69 minutes the following year. In his senior world debut, he was eliminated in the 800 m heats at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
