2012 Egyptian Presidential Debate
The 2012 Egyptian presidential debate was the first-ever presidential debate held in Egyptian history as well as the first in any Arabic-speaking nation-state. Held in preparation for the upcoming presidential election, it was held between presidential candidates Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh (independent, endorsed by Al-Nour Party, moderate Islamic Al-Wasat Party and Egyptian Current Party) and Amr Moussa (independent). It was broadcast live on ONtv on May 10, 2012 and moderated by Yosri Fouda of ONTV and Mona el-Shazly of Dream TV. 2012 Egyptian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Egypt in 2012, with the first round on 23 and 24 May 2012 and the second on 16 and 17 June. The 2012 Egyptian Presidential election was the first democratic presidential election of Egypt’s history. The Muslim Brotherhood declared early 18 June 2012, that its candidate, Mohamed Morsi, won Egypt's presidential election, which would be the first victory of an Islamist as head of state in the Arab world. It was the second presidential election in Egypt's history with more than one candidate, following the 2005 election, and the first presidential election after the 2011 Egyptian revolution which ousted president Hosni Mubarak, during the Arab Spring. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh
Dr. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh Abdel Hady ( ar, عبد المنعم أبو الفتوح عبد الهادي, or ) (born 15 October 1951) is an Egyptian physician, former student activist and a politician. In 2011–2012, he ran for President of Egypt as an independent. He was formerly a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. He is known for his staunch opposition to the Sadat and Mubarak regimes as well as his openness towards people of different political ideologies, a subject of controversy among some supporters of Egyptian Islamist movements. Affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood since the early 1970s, Abou al-Fotouh had been a member of the Brotherhood's Guidance Bureau from 1987 until 2009. In 2011, he formally quit all political work with the Muslim Brotherhood and resigned from its membership, following his decision to run for president in the presidential election in 2012. Amr Moussa
Amr Moussa ( ar, عمرو موسى, , Amr Muhammad Moussa; born 3 October 1936) is an Egyptian politician and diplomat who was the Secretary-General of the Arab League, a 22-member forum representing Arab states, from 1 June 2001 to 1 July 2011. Previously he served in the government of Egypt as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1991 to 2001. On 8 September 2013, he was elected president of the committee of 50 that will amend the Egyptian constitution. Early life He was born on 3 October 1936 in Cairo, Egypt, the son of former parliamentarian Muhammad Moussa. His father also had a son named Pierre during his studies in France in the 1920s. Yosri Fouda
Yosri Fouda ( ar, يسري فودة ', ), is an Egyptian investigative reporter, author, and television host. He established Al Jazeera's office in London and was one of the star figures in the channel until he resigned in 2009. Fouda also worked as a television host at the Cairo-based ONTV Egyptian Channel. He co‑authored ''Masterminds of Terror: The Truth Behind the Most Devastating Attack The World Has Ever Seen'', published in 2003 by Arcade Publishing. Mona El Shazly ( ar, منى الشاذلي, ) is an Egyptian talk show host. She is known for her talk show ''Al Ashira Masa'an'' (''10 O'Clock'') where she discussed news of the day and interviewed Egyptian and foreign politicians and scientists. Dream TV ( ar, قناة دريم) is an Arabic satellite television channel headquartered in Media Production City, Egypt. Dream TV was the first Egyptian private television channel, and offered two channels on Nilesat: Dream 1 and Dream 2, until 2015. The network provides cultural programming, news analysis, and a platform for talk shows - most notably "10:00 pm" ( ar, العاشرة مساءً) with Mona el-Shazly on Dream 2.
