2012 Cincinnati Commandos Season
The 2012 Cincinnati Commandos season was the 3rd season for the franchise, and their first as a member of the Northern Conference of the United Indoor Football League (UIFL). Just one month after their 2011 CIFL Championship Game victory, the Commandos announced they were leaving the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) to join the UIFL. On August 23, 2011, it was announced that Bill Back would return as head coach for a 3rd season with the Commandos The Commandos finished the regular season 8-2 (7-2 in the Northern Conference), clinching the first round by with the top spot in the Northern Conference. Cincinnati Gardens
Cincinnati Gardens was an indoor arena located in Cincinnati, Ohio, that opened in 1949. The 25,000 square foot (2,300 m²) brick and limestone building at 2250 Seymour Avenue in Bond Hill had a entrance that was decorated with six three-dimensional carved athletic figures. When it opened, its seating capacity of 11,000+ made it the seventh largest indoor arena in the United States. The Cincinnati Gardens' first event was an exhibition hockey game. It has been the home of six league championship hockey teams, and most recently was the home of the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League. It also has been host to numerous other sporting events, concerts, stage shows, circuses, and political rallies. 2012 Erie Explosion Season
The 2012 Erie Explosion season was the sixth season for the indoor American football franchise, and their first as a member of the Northern Conference of the United Indoor Football League (UIFL). On August 25, 2011, the Explosion left the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) and joined the United Indoor Football League. The change reunited Erie with Andrew Haines, who founded the city's previous indoor football team, the Erie Freeze. (The Explosion's departure came two weeks before the SIFL broke up into the Lone Star Football League and the Professional Indoor Football League, neither of which included Pennsylvania in their territories.) Darren Barnett
Darren Alan Barnett (May 22, 1984 - July 1, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a cornerback. Barnett was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He played scholastically at Princeton High School and collegiately at Michigan State and Southwest Missouri State. Barnett was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was released at the end of the pre-season, but was added to their practice squad in mid-October and earned a Super Bowl ring with the team for their victory in Super Bowl XLII. He again spent training camp with the Giants in 2008, but again was released at the end of the pre-season. Barnett spent the 2009 season with the Odessa Roughnecks of the Indoor Football League. Tyler Allen Sheehan is a former American football quarterback. Sheehan played collegiately at Bowling Green State University after a standout career at La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. After going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft, he signed with Houston Texans, where he was released after training camp. In 2011, he signed with the Cincinnati Commandos of the Continental Indoor Football League. Sheehan led the Commandos to a perfect 10-0 regular season, winning the league's MVP award. In the playoffs, Sheehan led the Commandos to the 2011 CIFL Championship Game, where they defeated the Marion Blue Racers 44-29. Hertz Arena is a 7,181-seat multi-purpose arena in Estero, Florida, which is located between Miromar Lakes, Florida and Bonita Springs, Florida. The 2012 Marion Blue Racers season was the 2nd season for the United Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise. On July 5, 2011, the Blue Racers announced they were leaving the CIFL to join the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The Blue Racers were added as a member of the Northern Conference, re-uniting with, their arch-rivals, the Cincinnati Commandos. On August 17, 2011, Lorenzo Styles was named the 3rd head coach in franchise history.
