The 2012 Caerphilly Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Caerphilly County Borough Council in Wales. This was on the same day as other Welsh local elections. Election results The Labour Party won control of the council from Plaid Cymru, after gaining an additional 18 seats. Four council candidates were elected unopposed. Among the notable Plaid Cymru defeated councillors were the current mayor, Vera Jenkins (Crumlin ward) and Ron Davies, the ex-Labour Secretary of State for Wales (Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen ward). 2017 Caerphilly County Borough Council Election
The 2017 Caerphilly County Borough Council election was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the national 2017 Welsh local elections. The election was preceded by the 2012 CCBC election and will be followed by the 2022 CCBC election. Overall results Plaid Cymru had achieved tremendous growth in the 1999 Caerphilly County Borough Council election gaining a total of 38 seats, This tremendous growth had declined by the 2012 election to just 20 seats. The Independents in Caerphilly County Borough had also suffered sizable losses in the 2012 election going from 9 in 2008 election to 3 in 2012 election. The Labour Party won 50 seats achieving a majority, Plaid Cymru obtained 18 seats and 5 seats were won by independent candidates. 2012 Welsh Local Elections
The 2012 Welsh local elections took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of all twenty-two local authorities in Wales. They were held alongside other local elections in the United Kingdom. The previous elections were held in 2008. The Labour Party made gains at the expense of the other three major parties and of independents. Labour won majority control of ten councils—up eight from the 2008 local elections—while two remained under the control of independents and nine councils had no overall control. The Welsh Government announced that elections for Anglesey council would be postponed to May 2013. Ronald Davies (born 6 August 1946) is a Welsh politician, former Secretary of State for Wales, former Member of Parliament and former member of the Welsh Assembly. He describes himself as a politician belonging to the "traditional left" who had "spent his life looking for a socialist progressive party". He was a member of the Labour Party (until 2004), and then of Forward Wales (2004-2009); he was subsequently an independent MP and eventually joined Plaid Cymru in 2010. He is credited with being the "architect of devolution" in Wales and led the campaign to create the National Assembly for Wales.
