Morecambe F
Morecambe ( ) is a seaside town and civil parish in the City of Lancaster district in Lancashire, England. It is in Morecambe Bay on the Irish Sea. Name The first use of the name was by John Whitaker in his ''History of Manchester'' (1771), when he refers to the "æstury of Moricambe". It next appears four years later in ''Antiquities of Furness'', where the bay is described as "the Bay of Morecambe". That name is derived from the Roman name ''Moriancabris Æsturis'' shown on maps prepared for them by ''Claudius Ptolemœus'' (Ptolemy) from his original Greek maps. At this distance in time it is impossible to say if the name was originally derived from an earlier language (e.g. Celtic language) or from Greek. The Latin version describes the fourth inlet north from Wales on the west coast of England as Moriancabris Æsturis. Lewis Peter Alessandra (born 8 February 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker or winger for South Shields. He has played in the English Football League for Oldham Athletic, Morecambe, Plymouth Argyle, Rochdale, York City, Hartlepool United and Notts County and Carlisle United. Niall Thomas Cowperthwaite (born 28 January 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays for Lancaster City as a left back. Career Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cowperthwaite moved from the Morecambe juniors to the senior team in August 2010. In May 2012, Cowperthwaite was released by the club. He spent the 2012–13 season with Workington. In June 2013 he left Workington to attend Lancaster University. Later that month he signed for Kendal Town. He also played for Penrith. Andrew Michael Parrish (born 22 June 1988) is an English retired footballer. Career Parrish came through the ranks at Bury, signing a two-year professional contract in September 2005, before making a breakthrough in the 2005–06 season aged 17, when he made eight appearances. The 2006–07 season brought more first team action for him, where he made 10 appearances overall. He signed a new twelve-month contract in July 2007, and made a further 26 league appearances in 2007–08. Joseph Mwasile (born 6 July 1993) is a Zambian footballer who plays as a midfielder for City of Liverpool. He played in the Football League for Morecambe. Career Mwasile made his debut for Morecambe on 17 March 2012, in a 6–0 win over Barnet, coming on as a late substitute for Jordan Burrow. In October 2012 he joined Workington on loan, scoring his first goal for the club on 24 October in a 2–1 league match win over Altrincham. Laurence Thomas Wilson (born 10 October 1986) is an English retired footballer who last played for Connah's Quay Nomads. He was on the books at Everton as a teenager, and was capped by England at all youth levels up to and including under-19. Playing career Everton Wilson is a graduate of the Everton F.C. Academy. Gary Matthew McDonald (born 10 April 1982 in Irvine, North Ayrshire) is a Scottish professional footballer who last played for Scottish Junior club Kilwinning Rangers. Stewart James Drummond (born 11 December 1975) is an English former footballer who last played for Morecambe. A central midfielder, Drummond represented three clubs during a career spanning twenty-one years.
