The 2011–12 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship was the ninth staging of the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association for the 2003–04 season. The All-Ireland final was played on 12 February 2012 at Croke Park in Dublin, between Milltown/Castlemaine and Davitts. Milltown/Castlemaine won the match by 1-13 to 1-06 to claim their first ever championship title. Milltown/Castlemaine GAA
Milltown/Castlemaine is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Milltown, County Kerry, Milltown, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1889, but the exact date is not clear. The club's first appearance in the Kerry Senior Football Championship was the following year. In 1891, Milltown entered two teams. It was the only club to do so. This was a great feat as both teams were composed of 21 players. They had some success with the A team, the Milltown Volunteers, winning a few games, only to be beaten by Laune Rangers. In 1892 the club entered one team. It won the first two games beating Cordal and Tough, only to be defeated by Ballymacelligott. Milltown club then seems to have declined for a few years as it didn't contest the County Championship again until 1900. John Fintan Daly
John Fintan Daly (born 1957) is an Irish Gaelic football coach and former player. In a coaching career that has spanned over 40 years, he has enjoyed All-Ireland successes at club and inter-county levels. He has three children, notably John Fintan Daly Jr. (known as 'Small John' and 'Big Small John'). Management career Daly's playing career with Knocknagree ended prematurely when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury as a 20-year-old, however, he immediately became involved in team management and coaching with the club. Over the course of a 40-year association, he has guided the club to numerous junior divisional championship titles before managing the team to the All-Ireland Club Championship title in 2017. Daly had earlier managed the Milltown/Castlemaine club in Kerry to the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship at intermediate level in 2012. Davitts GAA
Davitts GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Kilvine in south County Mayo, Ireland. History Gaelic football was played in the parish since the end of the Civil War. In the early 1950s more concerted efforts were made to bring some organisation to football in the parish. The two teams of Irishtown and Ballindine amalgamated and affiliated in 1974. Club name Throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s the team played under the name ‘Ballindine’ at one point and ‘Irishtown’ at another. At one stage the name ‘St. Josephs’ was also used. Since the name of the club seemed to be a bone of contention at times, it was decided to try and settle on a name to unite both sides of the parish. At a meeting in the People’s Hall in Ballindine in 1974, it was decided that the club be named ‘Davitts’. Initially, this name was to be on a trial basis for one year but has lasted ever since.
