2011 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Hammer Throw
The Men's Hammer throw event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on August 27 & 29. Koji Murofushi took the lead with his first throw, improving on each of his first three throws to 81.24. Primož Kozmus moved into second place with a second round 79.39 while Krisztián Pars made a minor improvement with every throw (except his failed fifth attempt), passing Kozmus on his fourth throw. Pars last throw was his best, but 81.18 was not quite enough to catch Murofushi. Juan Ignacio Cerra (born 16 October 1976 in Santa Fe) is a male hammer thrower from Argentina. His personal best throw is 76.42 metres, achieved in July 2001 in Trieste. This is also the South American record. Career He won the gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. He also has a bronze medal from the 1999 Pan American Games, and won the 1998 South American Games. He participated at the World Championships in Athletics in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 as well as the Summer Olympics in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 without reaching the final. Lance Deal
Lance Earl Deal (born August 21, 1961 in Riverton, Wyoming) is a former American athlete who won a silver medal in the hammer throw in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He also competed in the 1988, 1992, and 2000 Summer Olympics. In the hammer throw finals at the 1996 Olympic Games, only the top eight competitors after three throws were awarded three additional throws. Deal fouled his first two throws; his third equaled the eighth longest throw of the competition. However, he was only in ninth place, because the other competitor had a second legal throw. The announcer initially stated that, on the basis of that tiebreaker, Deal was out of the rest of the competition. The officials corrected the error, however; IAAF rules do not call for breaking ties in this case.
