2011 A-League Grand Final
The 2011 A-League Grand Final was the sixth A-League Grand Final taking place on 13 March 2011 at Suncorp Stadium. It was the final match in the A-League 2010–11 season, played between premiers Brisbane Roar and runners-up Central Coast Mariners. Route to the final Match Summary In front of a crowd of 50,168, a record for both Brisbane Roar and football in Brisbane, the home side lifted their first A-League title after a match that was decided in a penalty shoot-out. Both teams had periods of quality possession and created chances; however, the game remained scoreless going into halftime. Brisbane Roar midfielder Mitch Nichols went closest for the home side in the first half, hitting the crossbar following a corner from Thomas Broich. 2010–11 A-League
The 2010–11 A-League was the 34th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the sixth season of the Australian A-League soccer competition since its establishment in 2004. The home and away season began on 5 August 2010 and concluded on 13 February 2011. The addition of Melbourne Heart brought the total number of teams to 11. Brisbane Roar finished Premiers with two games remaining in the season following an Australian record unbeaten run, and later completed the Premiership and Championship double by beating the Central Coast Mariners in the Grand Final. Rule changes A new rule at the start of the season allows for two marquee players to be signed without salary cap restraints so long as one is Australian with a certain number of qualifications to be determined by FFA. Michael Theoklitos
Michael Theo (formerly Theoklitos) (born 11 February 1981) is an Australian goalkeeper who is the goalkeeping coach at A-League club Western United FC. Career Early career Theoklitos began his career as a young lad playing in the Victorian Premier League (VPL) for Bulleen Zebras. He was then picked up by South Melbourne FC but failed to make an impact ahead of number 1 Eugene Galekovic. After 5 appearances for Hellas, he was sold to the Football Kingz FC for the 2001–2002 season where he became a fan favourite making 20 appearances in the National Soccer League. During his time with the Kingz he was scouted by Blackpool FC who signed him in 2002. Due to injury he only played in three games, only two of which counted as full representation for Blackpool. Joe Marston Medal
The Joe Marston Medal is an A-League award given to the player of the match in the A-League Grand Final each year. Introduced in 1990, previously the award was also given to the best player in the National Soccer League grand final. The medal is named after Joe Marston, who played for Australia national association football team in the 1950s and was a member of the Preston North End side that played in the 1954 FA Cup Final. Predrag "Pedj" Bojić (born 9 April 1984) is an Australian football (soccer) player who last played professionally for Sydney FC. Club career Bojić's professional career began at Australian club Parramatta Power in the 2000–01 season, where he played for two years. He went to Sydney Olympic and then moved to Northampton in England the following season on a free transfer after a successful trial. Ivan Frankie Franjic (born 10 September 1987) is an Australian Association football, soccer player who plays for Heidelberg United FC, Heidelberg United in the NPL Victoria. John Paul Hutchinson (born 29 December 1979) is a football manager and former player. He played as a central midfielder for Eastern Pride, Northern Spirit, Manly United, Chengdu Blades and Central Coast Mariners. He also captained the Central Coast Mariners. Born in Australia, he represented the Malta national team internationally. Hutchinson was born in Morwell, Victoria and made his senior debut for Eastern Pride in the National Soccer League in 1997.
