2010 Zamboanga City Local Elections
Local elections were held in Zamboanga City on May 10, 2010 within the Philippine general election. The voters elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, and eight councilors per district. Summary Incumbent Mayor Celso Lobregat decided to run for a last third term for the mayorship. Incumbent Vice-Mayor Mannix Dalipe runs against Lobregat under the banner of the Nationalist People's Coalition. Lobregat picks District II Councilor Cesar Iturralde as his running mate. Dalipe picks former Monsignor Crisanto dela Cruz as his running mate. Dela Cruz previously fought Lobregat for the mayorship last 2007 but lost. Celso Lobregat
Celso L. Lobregat, III (born March 20, 1948), is a Filipino politician having served as Zamboanga City's mayor and congressman. Early life and career Lobregat comes from a long line of landlord-politicians from Mindanao. His grandfather Pablo Lorenzo, was once Mayor of Zamboanga City and a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1934. In the Quirino administration, Don Pablo Lorenzo held several cabinet positions, which included Secretary of Education and Secretary of Public Works. During the Macapagal administration, he was chair of the Development Bank of the Philippines. Celso's mother, Maria Clara Lobregat, was a Delegate to the 1971 Philippine Constitutional Convention and was a three-term Congresswoman of Zamboanga City, starting 1987. Local elections was held in Zamboanga City on May 14, 2007, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, and eight councilors per district. Previously, the city voters elected 12 councilors and one representative from its lone district. Political changes Since 1984, Zamboanga City is represented in the national Congress by one representative. The Philippine Green Republican Party, commonly known as PGRP, is a political party in the Philippines. History In 2007, the party was accredited by the Commission on Elections and fielded Senate candidates who were later declared nuisance candidates. In 2010, they again fielded national candidates and local candidates including a Presidential candidate, Felix Cantal. He, together with their senatorial candidates were declared nuisance candidates.
