2010 Progressive Conservative Party Of Prince Edward Island Leadership Election
The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island held a leadership election in Charlottetown on October 2, 2010 to select a new leader after the resignation of former Premier Pat Binns on August 30, 2007 following the defeat of the party in the 2007 general election. Olive Crane was appointed interim leader on September 4, 2007 and served until June 2010 when she resigned to successfully run for leader. Jamie Ballem, Fred McCardle, Jamie Fox, and Peter Llewellyn were all also candidates for the party's leadership. Olive Crane won the election. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. Pat Binns
Patrick George Binns (born October 8, 1948), is a Canadian diplomat, the 30th premier of Prince Edward Island from 1996 to 2007 and Canadian Ambassador to Ireland from 2007 to 2010. Binns has a long history of public service, most notably being the 30th Premier of PEI for 11 years, during which time he was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island. During his premiership, Binns was known as the province's "affable and unassuming premier." He also served as Canada's Consul General in Boston, Massachusetts. Before the premiership Binns was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts. Olive Crane
Mary Olive Crane (born 28 November 1957) is a Canadian politician and social worker from Douglas Station, Prince Edward Island. She was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2010 on an interim basis and 2010 to 2013 on a permanent basis. She was also leader of the Official Opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2010 and 2010 to 2013. A native of Morell, Prince Edward Island, Crane is a graduate of Dalhousie University. She is a career civil servant, working as a social worker for the provincial government since 1979. The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island is one of three major political parties on Prince Edward Island. The party and its rival, the Liberals, have alternated in power since responsible government was granted in 1851. 2007 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2007 Prince Edward Island general election was held on May 28, 2007. It elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The incumbent Progressive Conservative government was defeated by the Liberal opposition after holding power for eleven years. The newly formed Green Party captured 3.04% of the vote or 4.44% in ridings they contested, beating out the New Democratic Party for third place. Jamie Ballem
Jamie Ballem (born October 31, 1954) is a Canadian farmer and politician, who served as a cabinet minister, notably as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Health. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1996 to 2007. Georgetown is a community located within the municipality of Three Rivers in Kings County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the Capital of Kings County.
