Massachusetts State Senate
The Massachusetts Senate is the upper house of the Massachusetts General Court, the bicameral state legislature of the Commonwealth (U.S. state), Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Senate comprises 40 elected members from 40 single-member senatorial districts in the state. All but one of the districts are named for the counties in which they are located (the "Cape and Islands" district covers Dukes County, Massachusetts, Dukes, Nantucket County, Massachusetts, Nantucket, and parts of Barnstable County, Massachusetts, Barnstable counties). Senators serve two-year terms, without term limits in the United States, term limits. The Senate convenes in the Massachusetts State House, in Boston. The current session is the 2021–2022 Massachusetts legislature, 192nd General Court, which convened January 6, 2021. Robert O'Leary
Robert A. O'Leary is a former member of the Massachusetts Senate ( D- Barnstable) who served from 2001 to 2011. He was a candidate in the 2010 Democratic primary for Massachusetts's 10th congressional district. Early life and career O'Leary was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts but has lived in the 10th district for the past 34 years. With jobs ranging from washing dishes to working in hospitals and doing research for the International Association of Fire Fighters, O'Leary then, as a young man, served in the Army Reserve and taught in public schools. O'Leary's educational career lead him to Massachusetts Maritime Academy where he currently teaches as a tenured professor along with an adjunct position at Cape Cod Community College. The Massachusetts general election, 2010 was held on November 2, 2010 throughout Massachusetts. Primary elections took place on September 14, 2010. Governor and Lieutenant Governor Governor Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray sought re-election. Republicans nominated former Harvard Pilgrim Health Care CEO Charlie Baker for Governor and Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei for Lieutenant Governor. State Treasurer Tim Cahill left the Democratic Party in September 2009 ran as an independent candidate. Patrick and Murray were re-elected to a second term in office. The legislature of the U.S. state of Massachusetts is known as the General Court. It has a 40-member upper house (Massachusetts Senate) and a 160-member lower house (Massachusetts House of Representatives). Descended from the colonial legislature, the first Massachusetts General Court met in October 1780 and consisted of one-year elected terms for both houses.
