2010 FIBA World Championship Group A
Group A of the 2010 FIBA World Championship took place between August 28 September 2, 2010. The group played all of their games at Kadir Has Arena in Kayseri, Turkey. The group was composed of Angola, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Jordan and Serbia. Jordan was playing in its first ever FIBA World Championship after finishing third at the FIBA Asia Championship 2009. Before the tournament, their average FIBA World Ranking was 12.2; excluding Jordan, the lowest in the rankings at 38th, it was 7.2. Based on the rankings, it was the most competitive group. Other than Jordan, all five teams were ranked in the top twelve in the FIBA World Ranking; it was the only group to have more than three such teams. 2010 FIBA World Championship
The 2010 FIBA World Championship was the 16th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship contested by the men's national teams. The tournament ran from 28 August to 12 September 2010. It was co-organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Turkish Basketball Federation and the 2010 Organising Committee. It was considered as prestigious a competition as the Olympic Basketball Tournament. The tournament was hosted by Turkey. For the third time (after the 1986 and 2006 tournaments), the World Championship had 24 competing nations. As a result, the group stage games were played in four cities, and the knockout round was hosted by Istanbul. The United States won the tournament for their fourth time after going undefeated in the Opening Round and beating host Turkey in the final. Osama Mohd Fathi Daghles, commonly known by the nickname Sam Daghles (born September 18, 1979), is a Jordanian professional basketball player of Palestinian origin. He currently works as an assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. Born in Taiyuan, Shanxi, he lived in San Diego, California, where he played for James Madison High School. In 2006, he was selected 4th in the 8th round by the Idaho Stampede of the NBA D-League. David Emil Andersen (born 23 June 1980) is an Australian-Danish former professional basketball player. Zaid Abbaas (Arabic: زيد عباس; born November 21, 1983 in Nablus) is a Jordanian retired professional basketball player. He last played for Al Ahli of the Jordanian Premier Basketball League. Demond Greene (born 15 June 1979) is a German–American professional basketball coach and former player. He played professionally for several seasons in, amongst others, the EuroLeague, the Greek Basket League and the German Basketball Bundesliga.
