2010 Belmont Stakes
The 2010 Belmont Stakes was the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes. The race took place on June 5, 2010, and was won by Drosselmeyer, who was ridden by jockey Mike Smith and trained by Bill Mott. It was televised in the United States on the ABC television network. As the final jewel in the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, the race was run without the elusive championship at stake due to 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver's loss in the Preakness Stakes. Both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners did not run in the race. Belmont Park
Belmont Park is a major thoroughbred horse racing facility in the northeastern United States, located in Elmont, New York, just east of the New York City limits. It was opened on May 4, 1905. It is operated by the non-profit New York Racing Association, as are the Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course. The group was formed in 1955 as the Greater New York Association to assume the assets of the individual associations that ran Belmont, Aqueduct, Saratoga, and the now-defunct Jamaica Race Course. Belmont Park is typically open for racing from late April through mid-July (known as the Spring meet), and again from mid-September through late October (the Fall meet). Nick Zito
Nicholas Philip Zito (born February 6, 1948, in New York City, New York) is an American Thoroughbred horse trainer. Zito began his career as a hot walker and worked his way up to a groom, to an assistant trainer, and to a trainer. His first top level horse was Thirty Six Red with which he won the 1990 Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes and earned a second-place finish in that year's Belmont Stakes. Nick Zito went on to win the Preakness once, and the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes twice. He got his big break in 1991 when he won his first Kentucky Derby on Strike the Gold. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2005, a year that his stable won more than $8 million in purses. Alan Garcia (jockey)
Alan Garcia (born October 2, 1985) is a Peruvian thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He was Peru's leading apprentice jockey in 2003 and in that same year he began racing in the United States at the Meadowlands Racetrack where he was also the leading apprentice. His father and grandfather were both jockeys in Peru. He is currently married and lives in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, with his wife and 3 sons. Garcia got his big break in 2007 when he won the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. This was his first ever Breeders' Cup ride. The win, on Lahudood, meant that he was the third jockey ever to win his first Breeders' Cup race in his first attempt. Javier Castellano
Javier Castellano (born October 23, 1977, in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Castellano began his riding career in 1996 at Santa Rita and La Rinconada racecourses in Venezuela. In June 1997 he moved to the United States where he rode at race tracks in southern Florida until 2001 when he moved to race on the New York State racing circuit. Todd Pletcher (born June 26, 1967 in Dallas, Texas) is an American thoroughbred horse trainer. He won the Eclipse Award seven times as Trainer of the Year, four of these in consecutive years. His horses Super Saver (2010) and Always Dreaming (2017) won the Kentucky Derby. He also won the Belmont Stakes with Rags to Riches (2007), Palace Malice (2013) and Tapwrit (2017). Jamie Theriot (born January 30, 1979 in Arnaudville, Louisiana) is an American former jockey. The son of Thoroughbred horse trainer Harold Theriot, he is a nephew of jockey Larry Melancon. Robert A. Baffert (born January 13, 1953) is an American racehorse trainer who trained the 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify. Baffert's horses have won a record six Kentucky Derbies, seven Preakness Stakes, three Belmont Stakes, and three Kentucky Oaks.
