2009 Kenyan Premier League
The 2009 Kenyan Premier League was the sixth season of the Kenyan Premier League since it started in 2003 and the forty-sixth season of top division Association football, football in Kenya since 1963. It began on 7 February with Agrochemical F.C., Agrochemical and Red Berets F.C., Red Berets and ended on 21 November with Sony Sugar F.C., Sony Sugar and Western Stima F.C., Western Stima. Sofapaka F.C., Sofapaka had an alarmingly remarkable season, having just been promoted from the Kenyan Nationwide League, Nationwide League for the first time and immediately winning the title. They also won the Kenyan Super Cup 2010 Kenyan Super Cup, the following season. Bandari F.C. The Kenyan football league system is a series of several interconnected leagues for association football clubs in Kenya. Structure As of 2017,the top tier league in Kenya is the FKF Premier League, with the FKF National Super League below it. The FKF National Division One and National Division Two are the third and fourth tiers of the system respectively, both divided into two zones for the Eastern and Western halves of Kenya. The Kenyan Nationwide League was the second-division football league in Kenya, until it was replaced by FKF Division One. There is promotion and relegation with the Kenyan Premier League and the Kenyan Provincial League. History In 2008 Nationwide league was divided into two zones with 16 teams each. Joe Kadenge (16 March 1935 – 7 July 2019) was a Kenyan association football, football player and coach. Farayi Mungazi, writing for the BBC, has said that he is "regarded as the finest footballer ever produced by Kenya." Nairobi City Stars is an association football club based in Nairobi, Kenya that currently competes in the first tier Kenyan Premier League. History The club was founded in 2003 as World Hope Football Club after a majority of players followed head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno from relegated Kawangware United. Dennis ''Wise'' Okoth is a retired Kenyan midfielder who featured for Kenyan Premier League sides Nairobi City Stars, Gor Mahia F.C. and Sony Sugar. He is currently a local and school coach. Career Player Okoth first turned out for World Hope since its inception in 2003 and was part of the squad that promoted the side to the Kenyan Premier League in the 2004/5 season. He was at the club till 2008 season and extended his stay for another two seasons in 2009 and 2010 after the club was rechristened Nairobi City Stars.
