2009 Kenyan Premier League
The 2009 Kenyan Premier League was the sixth season of the Kenyan Premier League since it started in 2003 and the forty-sixth season of top division Association football, football in Kenya since 1963. It began on 7 February with Agrochemical F.C., Agrochemical and Red Berets F.C., Red Berets and ended on 21 November with Sony Sugar F.C., Sony Sugar and Western Stima F.C., Western Stima. Sofapaka F.C., Sofapaka had an alarmingly remarkable season, having just been promoted from the Kenyan Nationwide League, Nationwide League for the first time and immediately winning the title. They also won the Kenyan Super Cup 2010 Kenyan Super Cup, the following season. Bandari F.C. (Kenya), Bandari and Agrochemical F.C., Agrochemical were relegated at the end of the season after replacing previously relegated Mahakama F.C., Mahakama and Mathare Youth F.C., Mathare Youth. Kenyan Premier League
The Kenyan Premier League (KPL), officially known as the FKF Premier League and as the BetKing Premier League (BPL) for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league for men's association football clubs in Kenya. Standing at the top of the Kenyan football league system, the league was formed in 1963 under the Kenya Football Federation but is now controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. It is contested by 18 clubs and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Kenyan National Super League. Western Stima Football Club is a Kenyan football club based in Kakamega. Ulinzi Stars Football Club is an association football club based in Nakuru, Kenya. They compete in the Kenyan Premier League, where they won three consecutive titles from 2003 to 2005. Vegpro is a Kenyan football club based in Naivasha. They currently compete in the Kenyan National Super League, the second tier of Kenyan football. They play their home games at the Naivasha Stadium. The club was founded in 1994 as Sher Agencies Football Club. Thika Thika (pronounced [ˈθika]) is an industrial town and a major commerce hub in Kiambu County, Kenya, lying on the A2 road 42 kilometres (26 mi) Northeast of Nairobi, near the confluence of the Thika and Chania Rivers. Thika United Football Club is an association football club based in Thika, Kenya, which currently competes in the Kenyan Super League, the second tier of the Kenyan football league system. The 2011 Kenyan Premier League was the eighth season of the Kenyan Premier League since it was established in 2003 and the forty-eighth season of top division Association football, football in Kenya since 1963. Mathare is a collection of slums in Nairobi with a population of approximately 500,000 people; the population of Mathare Valley alone, the oldest of the slums that make up Mathare, is 180,000 people.
