2009 Walker Cup
The 42nd Walker Cup Match was played on September 12 and 13, 2009 at the Merion Golf Club (East course) in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, United States. Team United States won 16½ to 9½ for its third consecutive win. Format On Saturday, there are four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. On Sunday, there are again four matches of foursomes in the morning, followed by ten singles matches (involving every player) in the afternoon. This was a change from previous years (and the first format change in 46 years) when there were only eight singles matches on Sunday. In all, 26 matches are played. Each of the 26 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole extra holes were not played. The team with most points won the competition. Adam Mitchell (born February 16, 1987) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Mitchell was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and went to the University of Georgia. During his college golf career, he was a second-team All-American selection, named first-team All- SEC, 2008 Ping Southeast All-Region, posted six top ten finishes in 2008 collegiate golf and was an honorable mention All-American in 2007. Morgan Hoffmann (born August 11, 1989) is an American professional golfer. Raised in Ringwood, New Jersey, Hoffmann attended Ramapo High School. After winning two consecutive New Jersey state championships, Hoffmann relocated to the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina to take advantage of the warm-weather and training opportunities. Hoffmann's girlfriend is Chelsea Colvard, they met while she was living in Miami through mutual Oklahoma State University friends. Hoffmann spent two years attending Oklahoma State University where he played on the golf team. Dogwood Invitational
The Dogwood Invitational is an amateur golf championship played annually at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1941, the goal of the Dogwood is to promote the game of amateur golf and support junior golf organizations. The tournament is run by The Dogwood Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The Dogwood Invitation has consistently been a "Category B" tournament in the World Amateur Golf Ranking which means that it is one of the top 150 men's events world-wide based on strength-of-field. The 18-hole, par-72 course at Druid Hills is 6,860 yards from the Dogwood Tees with a slope of 139 and 73.5 rating. Brian Harman (born January 19, 1987) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He is one of the few ambidextrous players on tour. Amateur career In college, Harman was a three-time 2nd Team All-American on the University of Georgia golf team. He won the 2005 NCAA Preview and the 2006 Isleworth Invitational.
