2009 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
Starting its third season, the 2009 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season continued the search for future World Champions. The 2009 season begins with two races during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend at Jerez on May 2 and May 3 and ends with another double header at the Czech Republic Grand Prix in Brno on August 15 and August 16. Another six European GPs see single Rookies races on each Saturday, making it an eight-race championship, which is two more races than the last season. The commercial rights of the championship are held by the rights-holders for the MotoGP World Championships, Dorna Sports. The Czech Jakub Kornfeil was proclaimed champion in the last race, in only his second season of road racing. Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is a motorcycle racing series contested by young, up-and-coming motorcycle riders, who have not had experience in a motorcycle grand prix previously. The class was founded in 2007, and since then a number of the rookies have progressed through to the 125cc/Moto3 championship in MotoGP. Prior to the 2013 season, a 2-stroke KTM RC 125cc engine was used. The year 2013 saw a change of machinery to the 4-stroke KTM RC250RBR, following the introduction of the four-stroke Moto3 class. The Spaniard José Antonio Rueda was the first racer to win the Cup title and his first World Championship title in the same year (2022). Mugello Circuit
Mugello Circuit () is a race track in Scarperia e San Piero, Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The circuit length is . It has 15 turns and a long straight. The circuit stadium stands have a capacity of 50,000. Grand Prix motorcycle racing host an annual event at the circuit (for MotoGP and smaller classes). In 2007 and 2008 the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters held an annual event. The track is owned by Scuderia Ferrari, which uses it for Formula One testing. The first race of the A1GP 2008–09 season was originally planned to be held at the Mugello circuit on 21 September 2008. However, the race had to be cancelled due to the delay in building the new chassis for the new race cars. The circuit hosted its first ever Formula One race on 13 September 2020, named the Tuscan Grand Prix, as part of the season being restructured due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thomas van Leeuwen (born 12 September 1994) is a Dutch motorcycle racer. He won the Dutch ONK Moto3 Championship in 2013. In 2014 and 2015 he raced in the FIM CEV Moto3 Championship. Joshua Frederick Hook (born 9 January 1993) is an endurance world champion motorcycle racer from Australia. Currently competing in the FIM Endurance World Championship with F.C.C. TSR Honda France. He was the winner of 2011 Australia 125GP Championship on Aprilia. Career Early career Born in Taree, New South Wales, Hook started riding at the age of 14 months. He started dirt track riding in 2005, then moved to road racing in 2008, where he ranked 3rd in the MRRDA series nationally. Hook was selected to compete in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Europe in 2009 and 2010, finishing the seasons 19th and 12th respectively. Hook showed his diversity by also ranking 3rd nationally on a Honda CBR600, in the FX 600 Championship. Donington Park
Donington Park is a motorsport circuit located near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. The circuit business is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation, and the surrounding Donington Park Estate, still owned by the Wheatcroft family, is currently under lease by MotorSport Vision until 2038. It has a capacity of 120,000, and is also the venue of the Download Festival. The British motorcycle Grand Prix is a motorcycling event that is part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. History Before 1977, the only British round was the Isle of Man TT, which was part of the FIM championship from its inauguration in 1949 until 1976. The Isle of Man TT was the most prestigious event on the Grand Prix motorcycling calendar from 1949 to 1972. Jakub Kornfeil (born 8 April 1993) is a Grand Prix motorcycle racer from the Czech Republic. Until 2019, he competed in the Moto3 World Championship. During 2020 he raced for WithU Motorsport in the MotoE World Cup. He was the winner of Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2009. Kornfeil is a competitive jet surfer, who, in 2015, became the first ever MotoSurf GP World Champion. The Sachsenring () is a motorsport racing circuit located in Hohenstein-Ernstthal near Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany. Among other events, it features the annual German motorcycle Grand Prix of the FIM Grand Prix motorcycle racing world championship.
