2009 Ondrej Nepela Memorial
The 2009 Ondrej Nepela Memorial ( sk, Memoriál Ondreja Nepelu) was the 17th edition of an annual senior-level international figure skating competition held in Slovakia. The competition was held between November 5 and 7, 2009 at the Ice Sport Rink in Piešťany. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Piešťany
Piešťany (; german: Pistyan, hu, Pöstyén, pl, Pieszczany , cs, Píšťany ) is a town in Slovakia. It is located in the western part of the country within the Trnava Region and is the seat of its own district. It is the biggest and best known spa town in Slovakia and has around 28,000 inhabitants. Etymology The name Piešťany comes from Slovak ''Piesok'' (sand), referring to local sandbanks. The etymology is straightforward – ''Piešťanci'' – people who live on the sandy site and ''Piešťany'' – their settlement. History The first human settlement in the area is dated to the prehistoric times, about 80,000 years ago. People were attracted to the site by abundance of game in the vicinity of the thermal springs that did not freeze in winter. Free Skating
The free skating segment of figure skating, also called the free skate and the long program, is the second of two segments of competitions, skated after the short program. Its duration, across all disciplines, is four minutes for senior skaters and teams, and three and one-half minutes for junior skaters and teams. Peter Reitmayer
Peter Reitmayer (born 6 July 1993) is a Slovak former competitive figure skater. A two-time senior national champion, he represented Slovakia at the 2009 World Junior Championships, 2010 European Championships, and 2010 World Championships. He also competed at the 2009 Nebelhorn Trophy, the final qualifying opportunity for the 2010 Winter Olympics. His placement, 21st, was not high enough to earn a spot at the Olympics. Gregor Urbas
Gregor Urbas (born 20 November 1982 in Jesenice) is a Slovenian former competitive figure skater. He is a three-time Golden Spin of Zagreb champion, a five-time Triglav Trophy champion, the 2006 Ondrej Nepela Memorial champion, and a nine-time (2001–2009) Slovenian national champion. He competed at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics. He qualified for the free skate at nineteen ISU Championships – six Worlds, eight Europeans, and five Junior Worlds. Urbas began skating when he was about eight years old. His first coach was Mojca Kurbos. He joined Elena Babitskaia and Valeri Babitski by 2001. They coached him until the end of the 2004–05 season. Alexei Bychenko ( he, אלכסיי ביצ'נקו; uk, Олексій Юрійович Биченко; born 5 February 1988) is a retired Ukrainian-born Israeli figure skater. He represented Ukraine through 2009 and Israel after that. Peter Liebers (born 16 April 1988) is a German former competitive figure skater. He is the 2015 Winter Universiade champion, the 2010 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, the 2012 Ice Challenge champion, and a six-time German national champion.
