2009 FFSA State League
The 2009 Football Federation South Australia season was the 103rd season of soccer in South Australia, and the fourth under the FFSA format. 2009 FFSA Super League The 2009 South Australian Super League (also known as the Devine Homes Super League for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth edition of the South Australian Super League, the top level domestic association football competition in South Australia, and was the second season to use the McIntyre Final Five finals system introduced the previous year. Ten teams competed, with the two worst finishing being relegated to the 2010 Premier League. The league was won by the North Eastern MetroStars after they beat Adelaide City 1–0 in the Grand Final, becoming just the second team (apart from Adelaide City) to finish top of the league or win the Grand Final. The Football South Australia (FSA), formerly known as Football Federation South Australia (FFSA), is the governing body of football (also known as soccer) in South Australia, established in 2006. Description Football South Australia are affiliated with Football Australia, the sport's national governing body. The FSA run the highest level of football in the state of South Australia, the semi-professional National Premier Leagues South Australia, below this they run State League 1 and State League 2 which are level 2 and 3 on the state's football league pyramid, and levels 3 and 4 on the national pyramid. Adelaide City Football Club is a soccer club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The club was known historically as Juventus — the original name given to the club by its founders in Adelaide's Italian community. Adelaide Olympic F.C. is a football club from Adelaide, South Australia. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia. Origins The club's origins can first be traced back to 1978, where it was founded under the name of Adelaide Asteras. In 1982 the club changed its name to Thebarton Asteras. Six years later, the club was taken over by the Greek Orthodox association of South Australia Inc. who later changed its name to Olympians in 1989. In 1998, the Greek Orthodox Association of South Australia Inc relinquished the Olympians soccer Club, which amalgamated with SAASL Club "Adelaide Rodos Soccer Club", while keeping the playing name of Olympians. South Adelaide Panthers Football Club are a soccer club from the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. They play in the National Premier League NPL South Australia, with a home ground at the O'Sullivan Beach Sports Complex, also known as Panther Park. The National Premier Leagues South Australia (often abbreviated to NPL South Australia or NPL SA) is a semi-professional football competition in the Australian state of South Australia. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues, which sits below the A-League on the national pyramid. The competition is controlled by Football South Australia, the governing body for the sport in the state. History In 2012 it was announced that the FFSA Premier League was to become the top tier of South Australian football (below the national A-League) after the disbandment of the now defunct FFSA Super League.
