2009 European Pairs Speedway Championship
The 2009 European Pairs Speedway Championship was the sixth edition of the UEM European Pairs Speedway Championship. The Final was held on 26 September 2009 in Miskolc, Hungary; it was second Final in Hungary, but first in Miskolc. The championship was won by Czech Republic pair and they beat Russia and the defending Champions Poland. Results In the Final will be the defending Champion Poland, Czech Republic (2nd place in 2008 Final), Russia (3rd place), host team Hungary (4th place) and Latvia (5th place). A last finalist will be determined in one Semi-Final. In Ljubljana, Slovenia on May 13 will be Austria (6th place), Germany (7th place), Ukraine, Finland, host team Slovenia, Italy and Croatia. European Pairs Speedway Championship
The European Pairs Speedway Championship is an annual speedway event held in different countries organized by the European Motorcycle Union (UEM) since 2004. Previous winners Rules The minimum age limit (16 years) starts on the date of the rider's birthday. Team composition The 6 (or 7) competing teams shall each consist of 3 riders: 2 riders having programmed riders and the third rider being a substitute, as follows: The substitute rider may take the place of any programmed rider, at any time, within the maximum number of permitted heats (5 when is 6 pairs and 6 when is 7 pairs) as decided by the Team Manager. Guglielmo Franchetti or Gino Franchetti (born 5 October 1985) is former motorcycle speedway rider from Italy. Career Franchetti was a member of Italy national speedway team, earning 5 international caps and was twice Italian National Champion in 2009 and 2012. He rode in the British leagues for Berwick Bandits during the 2008 Premier League speedway season and 2009 Premier League speedway season. He then rode for the Plymouth Devils in 2011 and 2012. Mattia Carpanese
Mattia Carpanese born (5 November 1985 in Padova, Italy) is a speedway rider who in 2007 rode in the UK for the Workington Comets who compete in the Premier League, and for the Birmingham Brummies in 2008. Carpanese finished runner-up in the Italian Championship in 2005. He was selected as a wild card for the 2006 and 2007 Italian Speedway Grand Prix. He quit the Comets after a string of injuries on 30 August 2007. On 20 April 2008 it was announced that Carpanese had been signed by Birmingham Brummies as a short term replacement for injured rider James Birkinshaw but was released after twenty eight days. Martin Smolinski
Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984, in Munich, West Germany) is a former international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider from Germany. He is eight times champion of Germany. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Coventry retained him for the following two seasons and his form improved over the next two seasons. In 2006, he signed for his first Polish club Rybnik and in 2007 became the German Champion for the first time. Also in 2007, he won the league and cup double with Coventry during the 2007 Elite League speedway season. He was a regular team member of the German speedway team at senior level and represented them in the annual Speedway World Cup. Izak Šantej (born August 26, 1973 in Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who rode in the Speedway Grand Prix series. Maks Gregorič
Maks Gregorič (born 26 August 1985) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Slovenia. Career Gregorič was a member of Slovenian national team for who he earned seven international caps and represented them at four World Cups including the 2009 Speedway World Cup semi finals. He rode for the Kolejarz Rawicz in the Polish Second League and started racing in the British leagues during the 2009 Premier League speedway season, when riding for the Redcar Bears and also rode for them during the 2010 season. He won the silver medal three times at the Slovenian Championship in 2009, 2012 and 2014. Matej Žagar (born 3 April 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who was won two Individual Speedway European Champion titles in 2004 and 2008. Career In 2002, he won the 2002 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and the following year made his debut in the Individual World Championship. He began his career in the United Kingdom with the Trelawny Tigers in 2003 before moving to the Reading Racers in 2004 when the Tigers closed. He became a permanent rider in the 2006 Speedway Grand Prix and 2007 Speedway Grand Prix seasons.
