2009 European Figure Skating Championships
The 2009 European Figure Skating Championships was a senior international figure skating competition in the 2008–09 season. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event was held from 20 to 25 January 2009 at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland. Qualification The competition was open to skaters from European ISU member nations who had reached the age of 15 before 1 July 2008. The corresponding competition for non-European skaters was the 2009 Four Continents Championships. National associations selected their entries based on their own criteria. Based on the results of the 2008 European Championships, each country was allowed between one and three entries per discipline. The following countries earned more than the minimum. The 2008–09 figure skating season began on July 1, 2008, and ended on June 30, 2009. During this season, elite skaters competed on the Championship level at the 2009 European, Four Continents, World Junior, and World Championships. 2009 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
The 2009 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships an international figure skating competition in the 2008–09 season. It was held at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, Canada on February 2–8. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The compulsory dance was the Finnstep. Notes Skaters who reached the age of 15 by July 1, 2008 were eligible to compete. Unlike the other three ISU championships, each nation was allowed three entries in each discipline, regardless of its skaters' performance in the previous year's championships. The corresponding competition for European skaters was the 2009 European Figure Skating Championships. Kristoffer Berntsson
Johan Kristoffer Berntsson (born 13 July 1982) is a Swedish former competitive figure skater. He is an eight-time (2000–2001, 2004–2005, 2007–2010) Swedish national champion and the five-time (2002–2005, 2007) Nordic Champion. Berntsson was the first Swede to land a triple Axel. Career Berntsson began skating at age 5. Though he started out doing both hockey and figure skating, he soon focused exclusively on the latter. Berntsson won the Swedish junior national champion in 1996–1997, a title he would go on to win the next two season as well. He skated on the international junior circuit starting in 1998–1999. Andrei Lutai
Andrei Vladimirovich Lutai (russian: Андрей Владимирович Лутай; born 24 July 1986) is a Russian former competitive figure skater. He is the 2006 Karl Schäfer Memorial champion, 2006 International Cup of Nice champion, and a three-time Russian national medalist (2007 & 2008 silver; 2009 bronze). He placed as high as 5th at the European Championships (2007) and 10th at the World Championships (2009). Career Lutai began skating in 1992 and was coached by his sister in his early years. After the rink in Belgorod closed, he moved to Samara for one year, and then to Saint Petersburg in 2001 after his sister asked Alexei Mishin to take him in his group. Tomáš Verner (; born 3 June 1986) is a former Czech figure skater. He is the 2008 European champion, a medalist at two other European Championships (2007 silver, 2011 bronze), and a ten-time (2002–2004, 2006–2008, 2011–2014) Czech national champion. Alban Préaubert
Alban Préaubert (born 20 September 1985) is a French former competitive figure skater. He won six ISU Grand Prix medals and five French national bronze medals (2006, 2008–11). Personal life Alban Préaubert was born on 20 September 1985 in Grenoble, France. His studies focused on economy and management. He graduated with an MBA from ESCP Europe in May 2010. Yannick Ponsero (born 17 October 1986) is a French former competitive figure skater. He won two medals at the World Junior Championships (silver in 2005, bronze in 2006) and two medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, including gold in France. Samuel Contesti (born 4 March 1983) is a French-Italian former competitive figure skater. He originally competed for France, then switched to Italy after the 2006–07 season. He is the 2009 European silver medalist and a five-time Italian national champion (2008–12). Personal life Samuel Contesti's father, Yves, was a professional football player in Ligue 1. The free skating segment of figure skating, also called the free skate and the long program, is the second of two segments of competitions, skated after the short program. The short program of figure skating is the first of two segments of competitions, skated before the free skating program. It lasts, for both senior and junior singles and pair skaters, 2 minutes and 40 seconds. In synchronized skating, for both juniors and seniors, the short program lasts 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Vocal music with lyrics is allowed for all disciplines since the 2014-2015 season.
