2009 Brandenburg State Election
The 2009 Brandenburg state election was held on 27 September 2009 to elect the members of the 5th Landtag of Brandenburg. It took place on the same day as the 2009 federal election and 2009 Schleswig-Holstein state election. The incumbent government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by Minister-President Matthias Platzeck took small losses, but retained a majority. However, the SPD chose to form a government with The Left rather than continue the SPD–CDU coalition. The election saw the Free Democratic Party and The Greens re-enter the Landtag for the first time since the 1990 election, while the German People's Union lost all its seats. Landtag Of Brandenburg
The Landtag of Brandenburg is the unicameral legislature of the state of Brandenburg in Germany. Its 88 members of parliament are usually elected every 5 years. It is responsible for deciding on state laws, controlling the state government and public administration, deciding on the budget and electing its presidium, state constitutional judges, the members of the state court of audit and the minister president. On 1 September 2019 elections to the 7th Landtag were held. Six political parties managed to gain representation. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) became the largest party in the Landtag with 25 seats, followed by Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 23 seats, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) with 15 seats, Alliance 90/The Greens and the Left with 10 seats each and the Brandenburg United Civic Movements/Free Voters (BVB/FW) won 5 seats. The Left (Germany)
The Left (german: Die Linke; stylised as and in its logo as ), commonly referred to as the Left Party (german: Die Linkspartei, links=no ), is a democratic socialist political party in Germany. The party was founded in 2007 as the result of the merger of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and Labour and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative. Brandenburg United Civic Movements/Free Voters
The Brandenburg United Civic Movements/Free Voters ( German: ''Brandenburger Vereinigte Bürgerbewegungen/Freie Wähler''; BVB/Free Voters or BVB/FW) is a political party in Brandenburg in eastern Germany. The party was co-founded in 2008 by Péter Vida, who serves as chairman. It cooperates with the federal Free Voters association, but is not a member. The party describes itself as "a statewide association of independent municipal voter groups and citizens' initiatives in the state of Brandenburg". The BVB/FW is active on a local and state level. Its first major success came in the 2014 Brandenburg state election, where it won 2.7% of votes cast and three seats due to the victory of Christoph Schulze, a former SPD member of the Landtag, in his constituency of Teltow-Fläming III. German nationalism () is an ideological notion that promotes the unity of Germans and German-speakers into one unified nation state. The German People's Union (german: Deutsche Volksunion, DVU, also ''Liste D'') was a political party in Germany. It was founded by publisher Gerhard Frey as an informal association in 1971 and established as a party in 1987. Financially, it was largely dependent on Frey.
