2008–09 R.S.C. Anderlecht Season
During the 2008–09 season Anderlecht competed in the Belgian First Division, Belgian Cup, and Champions League. Anderlecht competed in the Belgian Super Cup as cup-winners, but lost to Standard Liège. After the 34 league matches, they ended with 77 points tied for first place. As Standard Liège had the same number of points and the same number of matches won, test matches were organised to determine the winner. Anderlecht drew 1–1 at home but then lost 1–0 at Standard and thus ended in second position. In the cup they were eliminated in the early rounds by Mechelen, who progressed on to lose the final. Anderlecht failed to progress past the second qualifying round of UEFA Champions League. The 2008–09 football season in Belgium, which is the 106th season of competitive football in the country. Honours League competitions Belgian First Division Belgian Second Division European Club Results ''Note that the Belgian team's score is given first'' As Cercle Brugge did not desire to play in the Intertoto Cup, Germinal Beerschot took their place but where immediately eliminated. Anderlecht suffered a painful defeat to BATE Borisov in the second qualification round of the Champions League, which did not even send them into the UEFA Cup. Gent also performed weak, losing immediately in their first match. Club Brugge got into the group stage but after drawing in every match against mostly weaker opponents, they finally succumbed at home to Copenhagen. Sébastien Bruzzese
Sébastien Bruzzese (; born 1 March 1989) is a Belgian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Cercle Brugge. Career Born in Liège, Bruzzese began his career with R.F.C. de Liège, who was promoted to the Belgian Third Division team and made his first three prof games. He moved in July 2007 to the reserve squad from Anderlecht and in August 2008 promoted to first squad, where he didn't play any first team matches. In the next season (2008/09), he was second keeper for a short while. First keeper Daniel Zitka was injured and first substitute Silvio Proto was loaned out to Germinal Beerschot. Lucas Rodrigo Biglia (; born 30 January 1986) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Turkish Süper Lig club İstanbul Başakşehir. Olivier Deschacht (born 16 February 1981) is a Belgian professional football coach and a former player who played as a left-back or centre-back. Nemanja Rnić (, ; born 30 September 1984) is a Serbian former professional footballer who played as a defender. Roland Juhász (; born 1 July 1983) is a Hungarian former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Career MTK Budapest Juhász spent his youth career in Tápiószecső playing for the local club Tápiószecső FC. He started his professional career at the MTK Budapest FC in 1999. Cor Gillis (born 31 March 1989) is a Belgian association football player who currently plays for KVK Ninove.
