Newcastle United Jets Football Club, commonly known as Newcastle Jets, is an Australian professional soccer club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under licence from The Australian Professional Leagues (APL). formerly under licence by Football Australia. The club was formed in 2000 when it joined the National Soccer League (NSL) and was one of only three former NSL clubs to join in the formation of the A-League. Newcastle Jets have won one A-League championship, after defeating rivals Central Coast Mariners 1–0 in the 2008 A-League Grand Final. In 2009, Newcastle competed in the AFC Champions League for the first time, reaching the Round of 16. Jesper Håkansson
Jesper Håkansson (born 14 August 1981) is a Danish former professional footballer. He mostly appeared as a midfielder or a forward. Club career Håkansson can play as attacking midfield, winger or striker and has extensive experience having played in the Danish, Dutch and Swedish leagues. In 1997 Håkansson won the Danish Under-17 Player of the Year award. He made his first-team debut in the Danish 1st Division at age 16, making him the second youngest BK Frem player ever after Sophus Nielsen. After leaving BK Frem in 1999, Håkansson went on trial with Manchester United; however, he chose to join Dutch Eredivisie club Heerenveen, where he believed he would get more game time. Ben Kennedy (goalkeeper)
Benjamin Kennedy (born 14 February 1987) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Lambton Jaffas in the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW. Club career Newcastle Jets Kennedy was a train-on player for the Newcastle Jets, but was brought into the full squad for the 2006–07 season. Until half-way through the season, Newcastle only had the inexperienced Kennedy as a registered goalkeeper in their squad, until former Socceroo Ante Covic joined the squad. Kennedy became the Jets first-choice goalkeeper for the 2009–10 season thanks to some strong performances in the 2009 AFC Champions League, after the departure of Ante Covic to Sweden. Jason Naidovski
Jason Naidovski (born 19 July 1989) is an Australian footballer. Biography Jason previously played for the Australian Institute of Sport in the Victorian Premier League. He scored a hat-trick against the Fawkner Blues in his final game for the AIS. Naidovski made his mark on the A-League scene scoring a late winner against Wellington Phoenix in Round 1 of the 2009–10 A-League season. Fellow Jets' striker Sean Rooney crossed the ball into Naidovski who neatly headed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. In September 2014 Jason announced his retirement at 25. Reason of his early retirement was because of on-going knee issues. He requires a fourth knee reconstruction in 5 years. Noel Spencer
Noel Spencer (born 26 July 1977 in Wollongong, Australia) is a former Australian football (soccer) player who coaches Dapto Dandaloo Fury in the Illawarra Premier League. Club career NSL Noel played for his hometown of Wollongong from 1996 to 2000 and was part of Wollongong Wolves championship-winning team of the 1999/2000 season. After the championship win Noel left for Northern Spirit which he played for and later captained until the NSL became defunct. During the period between the end of the NSL competition and the beginning of the A-League he played a season for Parramatta Eagles. Antun Kovacic
Antun Kovacic (born 10 July 1981) is a former Australian footballer. Club career Melbourne Victory recruited Kovacic from Oakleigh Cannons as a short-term replacement for the injured Daniel Piorkowski towards the end of the 06/07 season, featuring in two games. He also played for several years in the now defunct National Soccer League with the Melbourne Knights. In June, 2008 Kovacic began trialling with the Newcastle Jets and impressed in two pre-season games, including one against the Central Coast Mariners. Benjamin Kantarovski ( mk, Бенјамин Кантаровски) (born 20 January 1992) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder. Jason Hoffman (born 28 January 1989) is an Australian association football player who plays as a right back for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League.Jason is the most capped player in Newcastle Jets History. Shaun Ontong
Shaun Ontong (born 25 March 1987 in Canberra, Australia) is a retired Australian footballer and coach who is current assistant coach of Yokohama F. Marinos. His father, Paul Ontong, was born in South Africa and played in the NSL for Canberra City, Mooroolbark SC and Brisbane Lions. Adam Leonard D'Apuzzo (born 20 October 1986) is a retired Australian association football player who played as a left-back. Jobe Wheelhouse (born 14 April 1985 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Lambton Jaffas. Club career Wheelhouse was unavailable for the majority of the 2006-07 A-League season and made his return against Perth Glory in Round 1 of the 2007–08 season.
