The 2008 congressional elections in Virginia were held on November 4, 2008 to determine who would represent the U.S. state, Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, coinciding with the 2008 United States presidential election, presidential and 2008 United States Senate election in Virginia, senatorial elections. Representatives are elected for two-year terms; those elected served in the 111th United States Congress, 111th Congress from January 3, 2009 until January 3, 2011. Primary elections were held on June 10, 2008. Virginia has eleven seats in the House, apportioned according to the 2000 United States Census. Nathan Larson (political Candidate)
Nathan Daniel Larson (September 19, 1980 – September 18, 2022) was an American white supremacist and a convicted felon. A self-described "quasi-neoreactionary libertarian" who unsuccessfully ran for public office several times, he was expelled from the Libertarian Party of Virginia in 2017. Larson advocated for curtailing women's rights and decriminalizing child sexual abuse and incest. Larson served fourteen months in prison for the felony of threatening the president of the United States in 2008. In 2020 he was arrested at Denver International Airport for allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl, facing up to life in prison if he was convicted. According to court records, he intended to take her to his home, sexually assault her, and impregnate her. During a search of his home, detectives found evidence suggesting that he operated a website encouraging pedophilia and child rape. Salam "Sam" Rasoul (born June 30, 1981) is an American politician serving as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 11th district. He is one of the two Muslim members of the Virginia General Assembly. In November 2020, Rasoul announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2021. Despite a significant fundraising advantage, Rasoul lost the Democratic primary to Hala Ayala by a large margin. Robert William Goodlatte (; born September 22, 1952) is an American politician, attorney, and lobbyist who served in the United States House of Representatives representing for 13 terms. A Republican, he was also the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over legislation affecting the federal courts, administrative agencies, and federal law enforcement entities. Goodlatte's district covered Roanoke and also included Lynchburg, Harrisonburg, and Staunton. Virginia's 6th Congressional District
Virginia's sixth congressional district is a United States congressional district in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It covers much of the west-central portion of the state, including Roanoke, Lynchburg and most of the Shenandoah Valley. The current representative is Ben Cline ( R), who has held the seat since the 2019 retirement of incumbent Republican Bob Goodlatte. The district was an open seat in 2018. In November 2017, Goodlatte announced that he would retire from Congress at the end of his current term, and would not seek re-election. Historically, the 6th district was one of the first areas of Virginia to turn Republican. Thomas Stuart Price Perriello (born October 9, 1974) is an American attorney, diplomat, and politician. As of January 2021, Perriello is the executive director for U.S. Programs at the Open Society Foundations. Perriello ran for in the United States House of Representatives in 2008. Virgil Hamlin Goode Jr. (born October 17, 1946) is an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 5th congressional district of Virginia between 1997 and 2009.
