2008 Royal Bank Cup
The 2008 Royal Bank Cup was the 38th Junior "A" 2008 ice hockey National Championship for the Canadian Junior Hockey League. The national championship was won by the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The Royal Bank Cup was competed for by the winners of the Doyle Cup, Anavet Cup, Dudley Hewitt Cup, the Fred Page Cup and the host team, the Cornwall Colts of the Central Junior A Hockey League. The tournament ran from May 3–11, 2008 with games played at the Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall, Ontario. Teams *Cornwall Colts (Host) - The Colts are the hosts of the Royal Bank Cup. Ed Lumley Arena
The Cornwall Civic Complex is a business/sports facility located in Cornwall, Ontario, Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. The arena inside is called the Ed Lumley Arena, named for Ed Lumley. It was built in 1976 and originally held 4,000 people, but in 2008, the arena had an extra 1000 seats added to make the seating 5000. The Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) is a Canadian Junior "A" ice hockey league operating in eastern Ontario, Canada. The league is sanctioned by the Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Canada and is a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. The Flin Flon Bombers are a Canadian junior ice hockey team in Flin Flon, a city located on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan provincial border. The Nipawin Hawks are a Canadian junior "A" team based in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. They are members of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Portage Terriers
The Portage Terriers are a Canadian junior "A" ice hockey team from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. History The Portage Terriers were founded in 1932. Ten years later the Terriers won the Turnbull Cup as Manitoba junior champions and went on to defeat the Oshawa Generals to win the Memorial Cup. Kindersley Klippers
The Kindersley Klippers are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada. They are members of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and play at the West Central Events Centre. History The Kindersley Klippers began their life as the Saskatoon Titans. The Titans played at Harold Latrace Arena and occasionally held home games at Saskatchewan Place (now known as Credit Union Centre). Due to a lack of attendance at their games in Saskatoon, the ownership decided to move the team to Kindersley, where they became known as the Klippers. The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league from British Columbia under Hockey Canada and BC Hockey. Founded in Vernon in 1961, the BCHL now includes 18 teams. From 1993 to 2021, the league was a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), an association of Junior A leagues across Canada that would play for the National Junior A Championship. The junior Vees were founded in 1961, sharing the name of the senior hockey team, the Penticton Vees. 2008 NHL Entry Draft
The 2008 NHL Entry Draft was the 46th NHL Entry Draft. It was hosted by the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, on June 20–21, 2008. The Senators were originally awarded the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, but because of the lockout, that draft was scaled back significantly from its usual format of being open to the public and having many draft-eligible players in attendance. The actual 2005 drafting was held in Ottawa's Westin Hotel instead of the Corel Centre, as Canadian Tire Centre was then known. As a result of 2005's abridged draft, Ottawa was compensated with the 2008 draft.
