Drumheller
Drumheller is a town on the Red Deer River in the badlands of Central Alberta, east-central Alberta, Canada. It is northeast of Calgary and south of Stettler, Alberta, Stettler. The Drumheller portion of the Red Deer River valley, often referred to as Dinosaur Valley, has an approximate width of and an approximate length of . Drumheller was named after Samuel Drumheller, who, after purchasing the homestead of Thomas Patrick Greentree, had it surveyed into the original Drumheller townsite and put lots on the market in 1911. Also in 1911, Samuel Drumheller started coal mining operations near the townsite. Drumheller got a railway station in 1912. It was then incorporated as a village on May 15, 1913, a town on March 2, 1916 and a city on April 3, 1930. Over a 15-year period, Drumheller's population increased from 312 in 1916 to 2,987 in 1931 shortly after becoming a city. The Okotoks Oilers are a junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. They play in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada with home games at the Centennial Arenas in South Okotoks. History In June 2004, the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) board of governors approved the sale and relocation of the Crowsnest Pass Timberwolves franchise to Okotoks. The franchise was granted a one-year leave of absence in 2004–05 to prepare for its first season in its new home. Players from the 2003–04 Timberwolves team were loaned out to other AJHL and British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) teams. Though dormant, the Oilers franchise was awarded the 2004–05 AJHL all-star game, which acted as a preview of the AJHL brand for the citizens of Okotoks. Drumheller Miners
The Drumheller Miners were a senior ice hockey team based in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. Two incarnations of the team existed. The first was a member of the Alberta Senior Hockey League (ASHL) in the late 1930s. The Miners playing in the ASHL featured the five Bentley brothers, Doug, Max, Reg, Roy and Wyatt. Doug, Max and Reg went on to play in the National Hockey League (NHL), while Doug and Max were both elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The second Miners team existed in the 1960s and 1970s. Drumheller won the 1966 Allan Cup played at the Stampede Corral in Calgary. They represented Canada at the 1967 Ahearne Cup tournament in Sweden, accompanied by Canadian Amateur Hockey Association president Art Potter. The Brooks Bandits are a junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). They play in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, with home games at the Centennial Regional Arena. History The Brooks Bandits were awarded an expansion franchise by the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in 1999 and began play in the 2000–01 season. Alberta Junior Hockey League
The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) is an Alberta-based Junior A ice hockey league that belongs to the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). It was formed as a five-team league in 1964. There are currently 16 teams in the league. The regular season league champions receive the Dave Duchak Trophy. The playoff champions receive the Inter Pipeline Cup (previously known as the Carling O'Keefe trophy and Gas Drive Cup).
