The XIV 2008 Pan Am Badminton Championships were held in Lima, Peru, between October 1 and October 5, 2008. This event was part of the 2008 BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix series of the Badminton World Federation. Pan Am Badminton Championships
The Pan American Badminton Championships is a tournament organized since 1977 by the Badminton Pan America (BPA) to crown the best badminton players in the Americas. The tournament was held every year from 1977 until 1980, then every two years from 1987 until 2007. It is now organized annually, except once every four years when the Pan American Games multi-sports event is held. Badminton is part of the Badminton at the Pan American Games, Pan American Games since 1995. Since then, 2007 was the only year both events (the Pan American Badminton Championships and the Pan American Games) were held simultaneously in the same year. Peru National Badminton Team
The Peru national badminton team ( es, Selección de bádminton de Perú) represents Peru in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Peruvian Sports Federation of Badminton ( Spanish: ''Federation Deportiva Peruana de Badminton''). Peru is one of the five founding members of Badminton Pan America and one of the three founding members of the South American Badminton Confederation. The national team was formed in 1965. Peru first qualified for the Thomas Cup in 2010. The team made their first appearance in the Sudirman Cup in 1993. The team have yet to qualify for the Uber Cup. Canada National Badminton Team
The Canada national badminton team (french: Équipe nationale de badminton du Canada) represents Canada in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the nation's governing body of badminton, Badminton Canada. The team's best result was achieving two semifinal finishes in both Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup. Canada is one of the most prestigious badminton countries in the Americas, winning almost every mixed team event in the Pan American Badminton Championships and also winning gold in both men and women's teams. Next to the United States, Canada has won 21 gold medals, 22 silvers and 12 bronzes in badminton at the Pan American Games. Michelle Li (badminton)
Michelle Li (born November 3, 1991) is a Canadian badminton player from Markham, Ontario. Li is the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion and the first Canadian to win an individual gold medal in women's singles badminton at the Commonwealth Games. She has won gold in both singles and doubles at the Pan American Games, and won the singles and team event titles from the Pan American Badminton Championships. As a competitor for Ontario, Li also won singles, doubles, and mixed team titles at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. Claudia Zornoza Roca-Rey (born 12 February 1990) is a Peruvian female badminton player. She came into international badminton arena after claiming gold medal in the women's doubles partnering with Katherine Winder at the 2008 Puerto Rico International. She also clinched the gold medal in the mixed doubles at the 2009 Puerto Rico International partnering with Bruno Monteverde. Valérie "Val" Loker (born May 1, 1980) is a Canadian badminton player. She won a silver medal, along with her partner Mike Beres in the mixed doubles at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, against the winning U.S. pair Howard Bach and Eva Lee, with a score of 18–21 and 17–21.
