The 2008 Guangzhou International Women's Open (also known as the ''TOE Life Ceramics Guangzhou International Women's Open'' for sponsorship reasons) was a tennis tournament on outdoor hard courts. It was the 5th edition of the Guangzhou International Women's Open, and was part of the Tier III Series of the 2008 WTA Tour. It took place in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, from September 15 through September 21, 2008. Vera Zvonareva
Vera Igorevna Zvonareva ( rus, Вера Игоревна Звонарёва, p=ˈvʲɛrə ˈiɡərʲɪvnə zvənɐˈrʲɵvə, a=Vera zvonareva.ogg; born 7 September 1984) is a Russian professional tennis player. She was introduced to tennis at the age of six and turned professional in 2000. Her career-high ranking by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) is world No. 2. Zvonareva has won twelve WTA Tour singles titles, including the 2009 Indian Wells Open, and reached the finals of the 2008 WTA Tour Championships, 2010 Wimbledon Championships, and 2010 US Open. Mariya Serhiyivna Koryttseva ( uk, Марія Сергіївна Коритцева; born 25 May 1985) is a Ukrainian former tennis player. On 18 August 2008, she achieved her career-high singles ranking of world No. 50. On 23 June 2008, she peaked at No. 39 in the doubles rankings. Career Koryttseva made a surprising run to the final of the Sunfeast Open, held in Kolkata, in September 2007. En route to her appearance in the final, she beat Monique Adamczak, Vania King, who had defeated the No. 1 seed Marion Bartoli in the previous round, Tatiana Poutchek and Anne Keothavong. Tatiana Poutchek ( be, Таццяна Мікалаеўна Пучак; russian: Татьяна Николаевна Пучек; born 9 January 1979) is a retired tennis player and current captain of the Belarus Billie Jean King Cup team. Her career-high ranking is No. 55 in the world, achieved on 22 July 2002. Many of Poutchek's greatest career results came in Tashkent reaching one singles final and seven doubles finals winning five. A hardcourt (or hard court) is a surface or floor on which a sport is played, most usually in reference to tennis courts. It is typically made of rigid materials such as asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Tier III Series
The WTA Tier III tournaments were Women's Tennis Association tennis third-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. The line-up of events varied over the years due to tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. From 2009, most Tier III and Tier IV tournaments from previous seasons became WTA International Tournaments owing to a category change. The 2008 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour was the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 2008 tennis season. The 2008 WTA Tour calendar comprises the Grand Slam tournaments (supervised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF)), the WTA Tier I-IV Events, the Fed Cup (organized by the ITF), the year-end championships, and the tennis event at the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. Peng Shuai (; born 8 January 1986) is a Chinese retired professional tennis player. In February 2014, she was ranked world No. 1 doubles player by the WTA, becoming the first Chinese tennis player to achieve that ranking (in either singles or doubles).
