2008 Copa América (baseball)
The 2008 America Baseball Cup was held in the Venezuelan cities of Puerto Ordaz and El Tigre, from September 26 to October 7. The tournament acted as a qualifier for the 2009 World Cup. "America Baseball Cup" is the English translation of the competition's Spanish name, which is ''Copa America de Beisbol''. The competition was used to select the teams that represented Central and South America — including the Caribbean — in the Baseball World Cup. Format and participation The tournament is split up into 2 groups. Group A consists of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia, Netherlands Antilles and Mexico, and Group B consists of Puerto Rico, Brazil, Aruba, Guatemala and Panama. Cuba did not compete because they already qualified for the 2009 World Cup as they were Olympic competitors the same year. José Velázquez (baseball)
José Guadalupe Velázquez Alarcón (August 12, 1923 – 2012) was a Mexican footballer who competed primarily in the México Primera División. He spent most of his career with Puebla F.C., for whom he scored 61 goals, and was a member of the 1944 Copa México championship team. Velázquez represented his national team on one occasion in the 1950 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. Personal life Velázquez was born in Jalisco, Mexico. Agustin Murillo Pineda (born May 5, 1982) is a Mexican professional baseball infielder for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes of the Mexican League. He has played in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Career Murillo was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an undrafted free agent in 2002 for the baseball legend Jack Pierce. Angel Manuel "Andy" González (born December 15, 1981) is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball outfielder and third baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, and Florida Marlins.
