2008 Connecticut Sun Season
The 2008 WNBA season was their tenth season and their sixth in Connecticut. The Sun successfully advanced to the WNBA Playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Lindsay Whalen was a key contributor to the club, averaging 14.0 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 5.4 assists per game. Mike Thibault
Michael Francis Thibault (born September 28, 1950) is an American basketball head coach, formerly of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, and now of the Washington Mystics. In 2013, Thibault became the WNBA's all time most successful coach with 212 victories. Career Upon his graduation from Saint Martin's University in 1979, Thibault entered into the employ of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, for whom he worked first as a scout and, after 1980, as director of scouting and as an assistant coach; during Thibault's tenure, the Lakers twice won the league championship. Arkansas Ladybacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks, also known as the Hogs, are the intercollegiate athletics teams representing the University of Arkansas, located in Fayetteville. The University of Arkansas student body voted to change the name of the school mascot (originally the Cardinals) in 1910 to the Arkansas Razorbacks after a hard-fought battle against LSU in which they were said to play like a "wild band of Razorback hogs" by former coach Hugo Bezdek. Kerri Gardin
Kerri Gardin (born May 19, 1984) is an American professional basketball player. She most recently played the forward position for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. College career Gardin was born in Burke County, North Carolina. As a Senior at Freedom High School she led her team to the 2002 North Carolina 4A girls state championship and was named North Carolina Miss Basketball for the 2001–02 season. At Virginia Tech, Gardin led her Hokies to four consecutive NCAA appearances. As a senior, she averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Jamie Carey
Jamie Leigh Carey (born March 12, 1981 in Hutchinson, Kansas) is a former professional basketball player, playing the point guard position for the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA until her retirement in 2009. Kristen Rasmussen (born November 1, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player in the WNBA, also playing for CSS LMK BC Sepsi of Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania. Born in Lansing, Michigan, Rasmussen attended college at Michigan State University and graduated in 2000. While playing for the Spartans, Rasmussen set the school record for blocked shots with 194. She averaged 12.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in her career. Following her college days, Rasmussen was drafted in the 4th round (51st Overall) in the 2000 WNBA Draft by the Utah Starzz. Tamika Williams-Jeter (born Tamika Maria Williams; April 12, 1980) is the head women's basketball coach at the University of Dayton. She was a professional basketball player for the Minnesota Lynx and the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA. Megan Marie Mahoney (born February 13, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player. During her 14-year career, Mahoney won the Italian championship three times, in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and the Icelandic championship in 2006. In 2015, she won the EuroCup with ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq. Houston Comets
The Houston Comets were a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team based in Houston. Formed in 1997, the team was one of the original eight WNBA teams and won the first four championships of the league's existence. They are one of two teams in the WNBA that are undefeated in the WNBA Finals; the Seattle Storm are the other. 2008 WNBA Draft
The WNBA draft is the league's annual process for determining which Women's National Basketball Association teams receive the rights to negotiate with players entering the league. The 2008 draft was held on April 9. A lottery was held on October 23, 2007. The Los Angeles Sparks received the first overall selection of the upcoming 2008 draft. The Chicago Sky received the number two selection. The Minnesota Lynx came up with the third overall selection, followed by the Atlanta Dream expansion franchise at four, the Houston Comets at number five, and the Washington Mystics at number six.
