2008 A-League Grand Final
The 2008 A-League Grand Final took place at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia on 24 February 2008. It was the first A-League Grand Final played at a neutral home ground, due to Bluetongue Stadium being deemed by FFA to not have a sufficient capacity to hold the centrepiece of the A-League season. This move created a stir of controversy and was protested by the Central Coast Mariners, who won the right to host the match, but to no avail. 2007–08 A-League
The 2007–08 A-League was the 31st season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the third season of the A-League competition since its establishment in 2004. Football Federation Australia hoped to build on the success of the previous two seasons and on the interest generated by Sydney FC and Adelaide United playing in the 2007 AFC Champions League, and the Socceroos competing in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. Based on their A-League 2006-07 season performances Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory competed in the 2008 AFC Champions League, making it two consecutive seasons in the competition for Adelaide United. Gary Van Egmond
Gary Rudy Peter van Egmond (born 29 June 1965) is an Australian former soccer player and former head coach of Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Playing career Van Egmond began his playing career with APIA Leichhardt in 1982. It was not until he joined Footscray JUST in 1987 that he established himself as a prominent player in the National Soccer League (NSL) before moving overseas to play for Roda JC where he only managed to get 10 games. He made his Australia national soccer team debut in the 1988 Seoul Olympics under Frank Arok and went on to have success with Marconi Stallions in the 1990s – where he won an NSL championship and played in three finals. John Aloisi () (born 5 February 1976) is an Australian former soccer player and current head coach of A-League club Western United. Mile Jedinak
Michael John "Mile" Jedinak (; ; born 3 August 1984) is an Australian former professional footballer who served as the captain of the Australia national team. He is currently the Loan Player Development Coach at Aston Villa. Jedinak was born and raised in Sydney, and played youth football with Sydney United before starting his senior career at the club. Following loan spells at Varteks and South Coast United, Jedinak moved to Central Coast Mariners in 2006. He next played in Turkey, for Gençlerbirliği and Antalyaspor on loan before joining Crystal Palace and subsequently playing a role in the club earning promotion to the Premier League. Sasho Petrovski ( mk, Сашо Петровски, ''Sašo Petrovski'') (born 5 March 1975) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for South Coast Wolves. Petrovski has two caps for the Australian national team. Petrovski was known in the A-League as one of the most prolific strikers, scoring 41 goals between the 3 clubs. Adam Kwasnik
Adam Kwasnik (born 31 May 1983) is an Australian former professional association football player who played as a striker. Club career Kwasnik was part of the inaugural Central Coast Mariners squad in 2005–06, and was a substitute in the final that the Mariners lost 1–0. He was the leading Mariners goalscorer with seven goals in a disappointing campaign in 2006–07 for the Mariners. Kwasnik was scorer of the 200th goal in the A-League on 20 January 2006. Alexander William Wilkinson (born 13 August 1984) is an Australian international football (soccer) player who plays as a central defender and is the captain for Sydney FC in the A-League. Wilkinson was born in Sydney and made his senior debut for Northern Spirit in 2002. Nigel Boogaard ( ; born 14 August 1986) is a former Australian professional footballer who played as a central defender in the A-League. Boogaard currently plays for Charlestown Azzurri in the Northern NSW Football National Premier Leagues competition. Antony Vidmar (born 4 July 1970) is an Australian soccer coach and former player, who serves as an assistant coach with the Australia national team.
