2007–08 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The 2007–08 Japan Figure Skating Championships were the 76th edition of the event. They were held on December 26–28, 2007 at the Namihaya Dome arena in Kadoma, Osaka. National Champions were crowned in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and ice dancing. Results of this competition were used to help pick the teams for the 2008 World Championships and the 2008 Four Continents Championships. Competition notes * Nobunari Oda withdrew before the competition. * The following skaters placed high enough at Junior Nationals and so were invited to compete at Nationals: Takahito Mura, Akio Sasaki, and Yukihiro Yoshida for men, and Rumi Suizu, Yuki Nishino, and Shoko Ishikawa for ladies. Ice Dancing
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Kensuke Nakaniwa
is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time Ondrej Nepela Memorial champion, the 2003 Winter Universiade bronze medalist, and a three-time Japan national medalist. He finished in the top ten at three Four Continents Championships. Personal life Kensuke Nakaniwa was born on October 15, 1981 in Fukuoka, Japan. Career In the 1999–2000 season, Nakaniwa won a bronze medal on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series and placed 13th at the 2000 World Junior Championships. In the 2002–03 season, Nakaniwa made his Grand Prix debut and competed at his first senior ISU Championship, the 2003 Four Continents, where he finished 11th. Takahiko Kozuka
is a former competitive Japanese figure skater. He is the 2011 World silver medalist, a two-time Grand Prix Final medalist, a two-time Four Continents medalist, and the 2010–11 Japanese national champion. He is also the 2006 World Junior champion and the 2005–06 JGP Final champion. Personal life Kozuka was born on February 27, 1989 in Nagoya, Japan. His father, Tsuguhiko Kozuka, competed in singles skating at the 1968 Olympics; his mother, Sachiko, competed in ice dancing; and his grandfather, Mitsuhiko Kozuka, was prominent in early Japanese skating. The free skating segment of figure skating, also called the free skate and the long program, is the second of two segments of competitions, skated after the short program. Its duration, across all disciplines, is four minutes for senior skaters and teams, and three and one-half minutes for junior skaters and teams. Short Program (figure Skating)
The short program of figure skating is the first of two segments of competitions, skated before the free skating program. It lasts, for both senior and junior singles and pair skaters, 2 minutes and 40 seconds. In synchronized skating, for both juniors and seniors, the short program lasts 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Vocal music with lyrics is allowed for all disciplines since the 2014-2015 season. The short program for single skaters and for pair skaters consists of seven required elements, and there are six required elements for synchronized skaters.
