2007 Paris–Roubaix
The 2007 Paris–Roubaix was the 105th running of the Paris–Roubaix single-day cycling race, often known as the ''Hell of the North''. It was held on 15 April 2007 over a distance of . Among the participating favorites were 2006 champion Fabian Cancellara and 2005 champion Tom Boonen. While the race has a flat parcours, the often poor weather and long sections of cobblestone roads which are traditionally incorporated make for a difficult race, rarely featuring an ''en masse'' sprint finish. The race is part of the 2007 UCI ProTour. Race overview Right from the start, several riders tried to be part of the traditional early breakaway, however, the peloton looked to be letting no one go. Stuart O'Grady
Stuart O'Grady (born 6 August 1973) is a retired Australian professional road bicycle racer, who rode as a professional between 1995 and 2013. A former track cyclist, O'Grady and Graeme Brown won a gold medal in the Men's Madison at the 2004 Summer Olympics. O'Grady also won Paris–Roubaix in 2007. O'Grady competed in the Tour de France from 1997 and contended for the points classification in the Tour de France known as the green jersey, finishing second in the 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2005 races. He wore the yellow jersey of general classification leader in 1998 and 2001. With his participation in the 2013 Tour de France, he tied George Hincapie's record of 17 participations in the Tour de France. Björn Leukemans
Björn Leukemans (born 1 July 1977 in Deurne) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer. During 2008 Leukemans was suspended for doping with artificial testosterone. In 2009 he joined the team. Leukemans joined for the 2014 season, after his previous team – – folded at the end of the 2013 season. Leukemans retired in 2015. Kevin Van Impe
Kevin Van Impe (born 19 April 1981 in Aalst, East Flanders) is a retired Belgian professional road bicycle racer. His father is former cyclist Frank Van Impe, and his uncle is Lucien Van Impe, one of the greatest climbers in cycling history and winner of the 1976 Tour de France. A routine out of competition drugs test performed on Van Impe caused controversy in March 2008. Van Impe was asked to give a sample for testing whilst at a crematorium making funeral arrangements for his deceased son, and was warned that failure to provide a sample would count as a refusal to give a sample, for which sanctions apply. Professional cyclists racing in the Paris–Nice and Tirreno–Adriatico performed demonstrations over the lack of respect shown to Van Impe. Roger Hammond (cyclist)
Roger Hammond (born 30 January 1974) is a male English retired bicycle racer, specialising in cyclo-cross and road cycling. Education Hammond grew up in Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire and attended Dr Challoner's Grammar School as a teenager. While still at school he won the 1992 world junior cyclo-cross championship in Leeds, but elected to concentrate on his university studies before pursuing a cycling career. Cycling career Hammond represented England in the road race event, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 2007 UCI ProTour
The 2007 UCI ProTour was the third year of the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI UCI ProTour, ProTour system. Following a dispute and power struggle between the UCI and the organisers of the Grand Tours, ASO, RCS and Unipublic, a number of events were run as ProTour events, although without ProTour licences. Races counted towards the ProTour standings, although the organisers were not obliged to invite all 20 UCI ProTeams, notably not inviting Unibet.com Cycling Team, Unibet.com. After numerous doping scandals in previous years, culminating with Floyd Landis' doping scandal in the 2006 Tour de France, the team was disbanded when the new title sponsor, iShares, decided to cease sponsoring and pull out of cycling. Staf Scheirlinckx (born 12 March 1979 in Herzele) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer. His brother, Bert Scheirlinckx, is also a professional cyclist. Juan Antonio Flecha Giannoni (born 17 September 1977) is an Argentine-born Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional between 2000 and 2013. Flecha had a reputation of being a Classics specialist and to ride with an aggressive style as he was keen on participating in breakaways.
