The Football South Australia (FSA), formerly known as Football Federation South Australia (FFSA), is the governing body of football (also known as soccer) in South Australia, established in 2006. Description Football South Australia are affiliated with Football Australia, the sport's national governing body. North Eastern MetroStars Soccer Club, commonly known as MetroStars, is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1994, the club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia, with matches played at the T.K. Shutter Reserve in the north-eastern suburb of Klemzig. It has generally been a strong club and has dominated in the top division of South Australian Football. History The club was initially known as the Metro Knights before a name change to the North Eastern MetroStars in 1998. It started playing in Division 2 of the Saturday Amateur league in 1995, won promotion into Division 1, and quickly became the dominant side in the league. The 2008 Football Federation South Australia season was the 102nd season of soccer in South Australia, and the third under the FFSA format. 2008 FFSA Super League The 2008 South Australian Super League was the third edition of the South Australian Super League, the top level domestic association football competition in South Australia, and was the first season to use a finals system, with the top five teams in the league progressing to the finals. The number of teams relegated to the South Australian Premier League also increased from one to two. The league was won by Adelaide City after they beat the North Eastern MetroStars 2–0 in the Grand Final. The 2006 Football Federation South Australia season was the 100th season of soccer in South Australia, and the first under the FFSA format. 2006 FFSA Super League The 2006 South Australian Super League was the first season of the South Australian Super League, the new top division of association football in South Australia, replacing the South Australian Premier League, which became the second division. It was also the first year that football in South Australia was run by the Football Federation of South Australia, which replaced the South Australian Soccer Federation. The season came down to a final round relegation battle between White City Woodville and Adelaide Olympic. Olympic lost 3–1 at Modbury while White City went down 1–0 away to Cumberland. This sent Olympic down to play in the Premier League in 2007. The Adelaide Hills Hawks are a soccer club from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Adelaide Hills play in the FFSA State League 1 and are based out of The Hawks Nest, Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. Formed in 1991. Adelaide Olympic F.C. is a football club from Adelaide, South Australia. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia. Origins The club's origins can first be traced back to 1978, where it was founded under the name of Adelaide Asteras. In 1982 the club changed its name to Thebarton Asteras. Six years later, the club was taken over by the Greek Orthodox association of South Australia Inc. who later changed its name to Olympians in 1989. In 1998, the Greek Orthodox Association of South Australia Inc relinquished the Olympians soccer Club, which amalgamated with SAASL Club "Adelaide Rodos Soccer Club", while keeping the playing name of Olympians. History The inaugural meeting of the club was on 16 May 1956 in a garage at the rear of a green-grocery store owned by Mr. Britain on Goodman Road, Elizabeth South. The National Premier Leagues South Australia (often abbreviated to NPL South Australia or NPL SA) is a semi-professional football competition in the Australian state of South Australia. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues, which sits below the A-League on the national pyramid. The competition is controlled by Football South Australia, the governing body for the sport in the state.
