2006 Men's World Hockey Cup
The 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup was the 11th edition of the Hockey World Cup men's field hockey tournament. It was held 6–17 September 2006 in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Germany won the tournament for second consecutive time after defeating Australia 4–3 in the final. Spain won the third place match by defeating Korea 3–2 with a golden goal. Qualification Each of the continental champions from five confederations and the host nation received an automatic berth. The European confederation received one extra quota based upon the FIH World Rankings. Alongside the five teams qualifying through the Qualifier, twelve teams competed in this tournament. 2004 Men's Pan American Cup
The 2004 Men's Pan American Cup was the second edition of the Men's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial men's international field hockey championship of the Americas organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 12 and 23 May 2004 in London, Ontario, Canada. The tournament doubled as the qualifier to the 2006 World Cup to be held in Mönchengladbach, Germany. The winner would qualify directly while the runner-up would have the chance to obtain one of five berths at the World Cup Qualifier in Changzhou, China. Argentina won the tournament for the first time after defeating Canada 2–1 in the final, earning an automatic berth at the 2006 World Cup. Hayden Shaw
Hayden Jonathan Shaw (born 31 August 1980) is a field hockey player from New Zealand. Shaw was born in Christchurch. He earned his first cap for the national team, nicknamed ''The Black Sticks'', in 2002 against Australia. Shaw was often involved in penalty corner routines performing drag flicks. As a result, he was top scorer with 13 goals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games whilst winning a silver medal with the national team. After the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup, Shaw was selected for the World Cup All Star team. He has played club hockey for HC 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. Shaw also played first-class cricket for Canterbury. He now works as a teacher at Pleasant Point Primary School in South Canterbury, having started in January 2019. The 2006 Men's Intercontinental Cup was a qualifier for the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup. It was held between 12 and 23 April 2006 in Changzhou, China. New Zealand won the tournament after defeating Korea 4–1 in the final. Alongside England, Pakistan and Japan, these five teams qualified for the World Cup. Suva
